Flathead sweeps Whitefish meet
Robbie Nuila came from behind to take the individual win and the Braves and Bravettes swept the team competitions at the Whitefish Cross Country Invitational Tuesday at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
Nuila finished in 16 minutes, 34.65 seconds, besting David DiGiallonardo of Polson by five seconds. Kasen Castner and Brodyn DeShaw came home in third and fourth for Flathead.
“Robbie and Kasen were asked to take their squad to a particular pace,” Flathead coach Jesse Rumsey said. “They performed well in the second half and were able to pull some of their teammates up with them.”
The Braves finished with five runners in the top 10, finishing the team competition with 25 points, Browning (80) and Glacier (92) rounded out the top three.
Brogan Lancaster finished as the fastest Wolfpack runner in 14th, edging out teammate Owen Thiel by less than a second.
In the girls race, Josie Wilson and Everett Holland ran a similar strategy for the Bravettes, earning second and third place finishes behind Polson sophomore Morgan Delaney.
“This is a big week for us since we go to Mountain West this weekend,” Rumsey said. “We have to be careful with two races in one week.”
Delaney blazed ahead of the rest of the field, finishing in 19:15.00 to win by 50 seconds over Wilson.
The Bravettes finished with 43 points, 10 ahead of their crosstown rivals in second. Whitefish finished third with 98 points.
Glacier’s Lauren Bissen finished in sixth to lead the Wolfpack ahead of Hailey Fiala in seventh.
