A juvenile suspect is facing felony charges after allegedly threatening a school shooting at Superior schools, according to Mineral County law enforcement officers.

Sheriff Ryan Funke said Wednesday that his office determined the threat made over social media was credible.

"The threat indicates a school shooting may occur. Based on our investigation and the specific nature of the threat, we deemed the threat to be credible," Funke said.

A post from Superior School District on Thursday indicated the treat to "shoot up the school" was received at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The juvenile suspect was arrested and transported to the Missoula County Juvenile Detention Facility, where he is being held on felony charges, according to Funke.

"Out of an abundance of caution, we will have officers at Superior Schools to ensure the continued safety and security of all students and staff," Funke said. "The school will operate as usual, and we will maintain an active presence on campus."

Residents are advised that if they notice suspicious activity or are aware of any threats, that they should report them immediately to school authorities or law enforcement.

"Your continued vigilance contributes directly to the protection of our community," Funke said.
