McPherson, Smith lead Whitefish soccer sweep
LIBBY — Preston McPherson scored one goal, assisted on another and helped Whitefish edge Libby 3-2 in North A boys soccer Thursday.
Later, Delaney Smith scored two goals as the Whitefish girls took a 5-0 win over the Loggers.

McPherson scored an unassisted goal in the 75th minute to put the Bulldogs up 3-1 — an important tally, since Libby’s Nolan Morris scored off Isaiah Banks’ helper nine minutes later.
Kale Hall also scored for the Loggers. McPherson assisted on Jack Oehlerich’s goal that made it 2-0 in the 30th minute; Whitefish’s first goal came from Kyler Jonson.

Taylor Dorvall got the only goal the Bulldogs needed, in the 44th minute; Smith got her first goal seven minutes later.
“Taylor opened up the scoring with a lovely send from the wing,” Whitefish coach Kelly Ordway said. “Anna Guzman sent in a perfectly paced pass to assist Delaney Smith on the next. Mahalia Horton charged a cross in to get her second varsity goal of the season.”
Horton and Sadie Olson joined Smith with second-half goals; Olson assisted on Smith’s. Whitefish outshot Libby 24-6.
“Defense earned a strong shutout with junior Jackie Solem moving with confidence in goal,” Ordway sid. “Junior Macie Schmidt and freshman Grace Sliman showed great tenacity supported by the calm composure of Charlize Ullrich and freshman Sage Ordway.
