Glacier sweeps Western AA golf
MISSOULA — Glacier’s Torren Murray defeated teammate Jonah Wynne in a playoff to win the individual title after the pair tied at six-under par, and the Wolfpack swept the boys and girls Western AA golf championships Friday at Canyon River Golf Club.
Sam Engellant finished in seventh at an even par 144 and Tanyon Murray came home ninth as the Wolfpack boys finished 10-under par (566) as a team, 14 shots ahead of second place Missoula Sentinel (580). Butte (623) and Helena Capital (626) rounded out the top four securing places in the state tournament at Northern Pines starting Thursday.
Flathead finished sixth in the team standings at 661, Dylan Morris led the Braves in a tie for 13th at 154.
In the girls competition Butte’s Dylan Bartoletti picked up the win by five shots, shooting 176.
Glacier’s Abbi Townsend brought home a third-place finish at 183, while Vaida Cole (188), Kendall Tkachyk (191) and Maggie Milton (193) all finished in the top 10 as the Wolfpack girls finished at 740 to win the team competition.
Helena finished in second at 771, Capital in third at 837 and Butte in fourth at 872.
Kyrie Gislason led the Bravettes squad at the tournament, shooting 217. Becky Schmidt finished just behind with 221.
The top four teams qualify for the State AA tournament, which begins Thursday at Northern Pines. A total of 30 individuals (plus ties) qualify, including the members of the qualifying teams.
