Eureka uses big first inning to cruise past Ronan

EUREKA — By the time the game reached the second inning, the Ronan Chiefs found themselves looking at a 14-run deficit as the Eureka Lions plated eight runs in the first and six in the second to propel them to a 16-1 victory in high school baseball Tuesday night.

Tyce Van Orden reached base in all three plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with three runs scored, three RBIs and pitched three innings allowing one earned run. Rowan Burow went 3-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs and Tristan Libby added two hits with three RBIs. 

Ronan’s only hit came in the first inning when Hunter Luedtke led off the game with a double and came around to score on Liam Wills’ sacrifice lineout. Luedtke started the game for the Chiefs, lasting just one inning and allowing seven earned runs. 

Columbia Falls 17, Troy 0 

TROY — The pitching duo of Brady Matson and Cooper Ross no-hit the Troy Trojans for five scoreless innings, combing for 11 strikeouts and just one walk in another baseball matchup Tuesday night. 

Ross also provided at the plate with a triple, three runs and three RBIs as the Wildcats scored in every inning. Reggie Sapa went 2-for-4 with scoring three runs, plating two and Jory Hill added four RBIs.  

Troy struggled defensively, committing 10 errors leading to 8 unearned runs. Carson Orr started for the Trojans and lasted just one inning, allowing no earned runs and walking four. The Wildcats plated six runs in the first, all unearned. 

Whitefish 12, Polson 1 

POLSON — A six-run first inning was capped off by an Avery Caton double that plated two runs as the Whitefish Bulldogs earned a lopsided win over the Polson Pirates in another baseball game. 

Logan Stewart earned the win for the Bulldogs, going five innings, allowing two hits with one earned run and striking out eight. Carter Godsey added a double with three RBIs, Luke Dalen went 2-for-3 with three runs and plated a run. 

Holden Emerson plated the only run for the Pirates in the second inning with a leadoff walk and later came around to score from third on a wild pitch. Maddox Bird and Landon Pablo finished with a single each, the only hits in the game for Polson.
