Walk to End Parkinson’s comes to Kalispell on May 10

The Flathead Valley Parkinson’s Support Group will host a Walk to End Parkinson’s Disease at Kalispell’s Lawrence Park on May 10 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Parkinson’s is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder in the United States. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, more than 500,000 Americans are diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease; however, the actual number might be much greater because many individuals go undiagnosed or are misdiagnosed.

The event in Kalispell on May 10 will raise awareness about this disease that affects people right here in the Flathead Valley. The Flathead Valley Parkinson’s Support Group connects individuals with Parkinson’s Disease to other members of their community through a monthly support group, boxing classes, and events like the Walk to End Parkinson’s Disease.

“As the facilitator for our group, I am always inspired by the vocal encouragement our members have for each other,” said Linda Marks. “It will again be on display at the Walk, as our members can be heard telling each other ‘ Good job!’ Hang in there!’ and ‘Youve got this.’ It just makes me heart happy.”

People are encouraged to attend the event even if they do not plan on walking. Snacks and water will be provided, and a limited number of shirts will also be available for purchase.

A waiver for the event and additional information can be found on the group’s website, FlatheadValleyParkinsons.com.

A portion of all proceeds from the event will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. For more information or to request an interview please call Linda at 303-472-9840 or Nancy at 406-871-6748.
