Glacier sweeps track dual with Sentinel
Cole Opre hitting his personal record in the pole vault was among the highlights of Glacier’s home track and field dual with Missoula Sentinel Friday.
Opre cleared 14 feet, 7 inches and sits second in all of Montana in that event. He was part of a Glacier sweep of Friday’s dual: The Wolfpack boys won 84-66 and the girls, 88-51.
Among the Wolfpack boys, Ben Winters hit a PR in the shot put with a throw of 51-3; he is tied eighth in all classes and ranks sixth in AA. Teammate Will Astle threw 48-9 and is ninth in AA.
Glacier also got a win from Gabe Ackerly in the 3,200; his time of 9:49.25 sits seventh in AA.
On the girls’ side Glacier’s Breanna Barnes also hit a PR in the pole vault, clearing 11-0 to win the event. Just three girls have gone higher in Montanan, and none in AA. Sentinel’s Naomi Lee, who cleared 11-0 on April 9, got 10-6 Friday.
Rylee Bigelow helped the Wolfpack girls with wins in the discus and shot put; Zeila Wagner won the 100 meters for Glacier and Dacia Benkelman was victorious in the 400.
Other winners for the Pack were Jaidyn Peevey (high jump, clearing 5-2), Charlotte Osler (javelin), Priscilla Melnick (800) and Emmery Schmidt (triple jump with a PR of 34-7).
Peevey’s javelin throw of 114-6 was a PR and ranks No. 9 in AA.
