Karen Young, Montana Realism in Oils exhibit comes to Phillips Gallery

| February 6, 2025 12:00 AM

Phillips Gallery opens an exhibit featuring the work of Kalispell artist Karen Young with a reception and artist talk Feb. 7.

The public is invited to meet the artist from 5 to 7 p.m. with the talk scheduled at 5:30 p.m. at the gallery located in the Kalispell Center Mall, 20 N. Main St.

The self-titled exhibit, Karen Young, Montana Realism in Oils, seeks to inspire viewers to reconnect with the tranquil beauty of nature.

Growing up on a working ranch in Texas, Young was surrounded by horses to ride. Her passion for horses grew along with a desire to sketch and paint them. She paused her artistic pursuits for a career, marriage and family, but knew she would one day return to the canvas again.

When Young relocated with her family to Montana, she was able to live out her dream as a full-time artist and resides on an equine estate in the Flathead Valley that has views of Glacier National Park and Big Mountain, according to her bio at karenyoungartist.com. She enjoys working in her studio and looking out the window to see her horses, Skeeter, Sunny and Marty.

The exhibit will be on display through March 1, which leads up to her 25th year participating in Great Falls’ Western Art Week.
