Carmen Fenster, 82
Carmen Ardeth Fenster, 82, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in her home on Jan. 27, 2025. Born on April 14, 1942, in Crosby, North Dakota, to Art and Annie Myers, Carmen's journey through life was marked by warmth, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to her family.
Carmen became Carmen Fenster when she married the love of her life, Larry Albert Fenster, on Nov. 23, 1958. Together, they embarked on a beautiful adventure, moving from North Dakota to Libby in 1963, with their three children, Larry (Lee), Terri, and Leslie (Les). In 1968, the family moved to Kalispell and in 1971, they settled in Evergreen, buying their first home on Harmony Road.
In 1976, Carmen proudly earned her GED, a testament to her dedication to personal growth. She worked diligently in the kitchen at Evergreen School, where she was a valued part of the community. She became the kitchen supervisor, impressing students with her freshly baked bread every day. Her retirement from this position did not mark the end of her commitment to education; she continued to volunteer as a teacher's aide, giving her time to support local schools and the children within them.
Carmen and Larry eventually realized their dream of a living on Ashley Lake, a place they referred to as "Carmen's Zoo." For 22 years, they lived at the lake where she spent her days baking delicious treats, losing herself in the pages of a good book, and creating lasting memories with her children, grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Her greatest joy came from being a grandmother, a role she embraced with all her heart. Carmen's legacy lives on through her three children, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She devoted herself to nurturing them, sharing her wisdom, and celebrating their milestones, always ensuring they knew they were deeply loved.
Carmen’s life was a beautiful, she was a devoted wife, a loyal friend, and grandmother who created a warm and welcoming home for all who entered. Her family will always remember her for her kind heart, strong spirit, and the countless ways she made everyone’s lives brighter.
A celebration of life will be held in Kalispell on April 5, 2025. Time and place to be announced at a later date.
