Francis 'Frank' Lyons, 86

| February 14, 2025 12:00 AM

Francis "Frank" J. Lyons, 86, passed away on Jan. 29, 2025, after a brief illness. Born on Jan. 14, 1939, in Kellogg, Idaho, Frank’s premature birth at just over two pounds marked the start of his remarkable life. He survived against the odds, and his love for the outdoors and big game hunting grew from a young age. As a child, he hunted in the mountains near his home, returning with small logs as trophies.

After graduating from Kellogg High School in 1957, Frank attended the University of Idaho, where he studied business and mechanical engineering. There, he met Barbara Kroll, whom he married in 1962.

Frank worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Northern Idaho and Montana for over 30 years before retiring in 1980. He was also a talented singer, performing in church choirs and with symphony choruses.

Frank cherished his family, including his wife, Barbara; children, Dave (Kody), Rick (Janet), and Debbie (Chris); and four granddaughters. He loved hunting, skiing, fishing, and summers at their cabin on Rose Lake in northern Idaho. He often reflected on his life, saying, "I have had a wonderful life."

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Anne.

Memorials can be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Polson. Loaves and Fishes Food Bank, or the Montana Wildlife Federation.
