Whitefish shop shakes up delicious joy with over-the-top drinks

Milkshakes can be fun, and at Clydesdale Creamery, that’s exactly the goal.
Take the Saddle Salted Caramel milkshake — a sweet blend of salted caramel ice cream in a frozen glass, rimmed with vanilla frosting, cashews and dehydrated marshmallows, giving patrons a mix of textures and sweet and salty flavors.
On top of the shake is a mountain of sweet, whipped cream covered in caramel drizzle, topped with the star of the show: the Liege waffle.
“We try to come up with different flavor profiles that go well together,” said owner Matt Arnold-Ladensack.
From the taste of it, they accomplished just that. From a huckleberry themed milkshake topped with a huckleberry brownie to a cake batter milkshake topped with a cupcake, the options range in flavor while keeping the fun consistent.
Clydesdale Creamery opened in Whitefish in September, offering menu items from over-the-top milkshakes to a scoop of ice cream for $2 a pop. The shop also features a full coffee bar, fancy s’mores and Liege waffle sandwiches — a waffle from Belgium made with crystalized pearl sugar.
Arnold-Ladensack, along with his partner Benjamin, own Clydesdale Outpost near Whitefish, a guess ranch that opened in 2022 featuring Clydesdale horses. In August of 2023, Matt and an employee suffered third degree burns after a food truck they were working on exploded. Clydesdale Creamery, a separate venture, came as a result.
“When I had my accident, Whitefish came together and really helped me. So, our motto here at Clydesdale Creamery is ‘Shake Up Joy’, we wanted to create something joyful for the community, something that could bring people together,” Arnold-Ladensack said. “We thought what better than over the top milkshakes.”
Whenever possible the ingredients are sourced locally. The ice cream is from Farm to Table in Columbia Falls, the wooden decor is from an old barn in Somers among other decor and for sale items.
Down the road, it would be cool to make their own ice cream, Arnold-Ladensack said, maybe naming the flavors after the horses at the outpost. The shop features a small vendor station as well, with all local artists.
“We wanted to do something that was over the top but also fit into the town charm with how this place is different than other places and how magical it is,” he said.
“And it is magical,” Ingram added.
Clydesdale Creamery, located at 16 Baker Ave. in Whitefish, is open weekdays from noon to 9 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, visit clydesdalecreamery.com.
