Host Ronan Maidens win wrestling tourney

RONAN — With Tirza Two Teeth winning her bracket and two more wrestlers reaching the finals, the host Ronan Maidens won the Western Montana Invitational here Saturday.

Frenchtown won the boys team title, outscoring Eureka and Ronan with Libby and Columbia Falls and Browning placing fifth through seventh. 

Two Teeth’s win at 235 pounds came over teammate Haven Houle by fall; Destiny Finley also reached the finals at 130 for the Maidens, where she lost by pin to Whitefish’s Taylor Dorvall. 

Ronan had 11 girls reach the podium and scored 179 points to 173 for both Browning and Polson. Frenchtown was fourth at 112, a half-point ahead of Glacier’s girls. Then came Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and then Eureka. 

Also placing for Ronan: Lola Schock (140), Kylee Bourdon (170) and Hadassah Read (155),  third; Aaliyah Stewart (125), Sara Templer (135) and Haley Kuhns (190), fifth; and Maria Cheff (110) and Seattle Adams (235), sixth. 

Glacier had two girls champs: Brooke Yeadon at 115, where she beat teammate Mikaela Julius; and Katelyn Sphuler, who pinned Polson’s Ciri Nice in the 100 final. 

Polson also saw Avari Stone (105), Ariella Mihara (120) finish second, while the Pirates’ Venessa Wheller (145) and Abighail Sorrell (190) won their brackets. 

Browning had a tournament champion in Alyanna Green at 170; she pinned teammate Makayla McKeeley in the finals. Browning’s Hayden Edwards also made the final at 155, and was pinned by Meadow Ragen of Mission-Charlo. 

Columbia Falls saw Samantha Larson reach the 140-pound final against Polson’s Wheeler, who won by fall. 

The Eureka boys had Timothy Schmidt (125) and Wes Banks (heavyweight) win individual titles while piling up 226.5 points. Frenchtown had 243.5 points. Ronan was third at 209.5. 

Browning’s Tahj Wells was the 150-pound champion, scoring a fall over Eureka’s Josh Lambertsen. Columbia Falls had two champs: Winslow Peter at 175 — he won by major decision over Ronan’s Dominique McKay — and Rowdy Crump at 190. 

Ronan’s Ridge Cote was the champion at 132, and teammate Koda King won the 165 title. Jackson Davis got to the heavyweight final for the Chiefs, where he lost to Banks by fall. 

Libby’s Nichaolas Campbell won the 138-pound bracket, and teammate Brider Bache was second at 118. 

Whitefish had a champion in Landree Aurand at 144.
