Bonnie Jean Long, 77
Bonnie Jean Long, 77, passed away on Dec. 16, 2024, at her home. She was born on Sept. 10, 1947, to the late James and Violet (Harthrone) Shanks in Spokane, Washington.
Professionally, Bonnie owned and operated a Farmers Insurance agency for over 34 years. Her tenure and success were largely due to her professionalism and commitment to her customers. She was loved by her customers, who often made visits to the office in person just to see and visit with her. Upon her retirement, she sold her agency to her son, Tony Gress, also an agent with Farmers.
Bonnie was devoted to her family and friends. She treasured being a grandmother and loved it when her children and grandchildren stayed with her and especially enjoyed hosting family Christmas. Having lived in the Flathead her entire life, she had deep connections and friendships throughout the valley. She and the "Gram Squad" forged a lasting bond when their children were in school and met every Thursday for lunch.
She was passionate about flowers and gardening. Her deck, surrounded by pots of vibrant annuals and overlooking the Flathead River, was her favorite place to be in the summer months. She also enjoyed baking, horseback riding, and kayaking on the Flathead River and Stillwater Lake. She was a member of a bowling league and bowled a perfect game more than once in her lifetime. Bonnie was a frequent spectator at Wildcat sporting events, cheering on her own and friends’ children and grandchildren, and was a member of the Columbia Falls Booster Club.
She will be deeply missed by her community. Bonnie will be remembered for her love for her family and friends, making her special no bake cookies, clam dip, and fruit cheesecakes for birthdays.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Violet Shanks, and son; Scott Gress.
She is survived by her children, Tony Gress (Cheyanne), Richard Wayne Gress (Isabel), and Jackie Taylor (Willis). Her grandchildren include — Tayler, V, Camila, Carver, Gracie, and Zander. Also surviving are, her brothers, Bill Shanks and Bob Shanks.
