Evening fuses music of symphony and jazz

| January 9, 2025 12:00 AM

A unique concert blending the elegance of symphony with the vibrancy of contemporary jazz and pop is presented during the Glacier Symphony’s Jan. 18 Symphony Jazz Night.

The evening will feature award-winning singer-songwriters Halie Loren and Steven Santoro, backed by the Glacier Symphony String Orchestra and a dynamic rhythm section. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Wachholz College Center.

Tickets are available at glaciersymphony.org or by calling 406-407-7000.

Loren brings her internationally acclaimed jazz-pop style to Kalispell. With multiple No. 1 albums on Billboard Japan, an Emmy-winning music video, and performances across four continents, Loren is known for her ability to connect deeply with audiences.

Her performance will feature a mix of classics like "La Vie en Rose" and "What a Wonderful World", alongside original compositions like "Noah" and "How to Dismantle a Life".

Santoro, a Boston-based jazz virtuoso and Berklee College of Music professor, has collaborated with legends like Sting and John Mellencamp. His setlist includes heartfelt originals like "Whisper My Name" and reinterpretations of classics such as Cole Porter’s "Get Out of Town."

The evening’s audiences can look forward to a stunning mix of jazz standards and original compositions.

Loren will lend her signature touch to pieces like "Sway," "Sunny Afternoon," and Tracy Chapman’s "Give Me One Reason.” Santoro will showcase his original works alongside timeless classics from the American Songbook.

The performance will also feature special guest musicians, including trumpeter Zac Fawcett, trombonist Hank Handford, and Maestro John Zoltek himself, who may join with his jazz/fusion guitar stylings.

“This concert bridges the gap between jazz, pop, and symphonic traditions,” said Zoltek. “We’re thrilled to bring such diverse and charismatic artists to our audience. It’s a night of surprises, spontaneity, and stunning musical collaboration.”
