Former Montana Poet Laureate to speak at Bigfork library
Nationally recognized poet and former Montana Poet Laureate Lowell Jaeger will speak as part of the Montana Poet Lecture Series at the Bigfork library on Jan. 10.
The Flathead County Library is featuring celebrated Montana poets as part of the Montana Conversations program sponsored by Humanities Montana.
The talk is from 4-6 p.m. in the community room.
Jaeger served as Montana Poet Laureate from 2017-19. He has delighted audiences with readings, lectures, discussions, radio shows, and poetry workshops for over 30 years.
Jaeger has taught writing classes at numerous conferences and workshops and is a professor of English and creative writing at Flathead Valley Community College.
The Wisconsin native has had a highly decorated career, winning a number of awards, including the Governor’s Humanities Award in 2010. He has earned fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Montana Arts Council and is a past recipient of the Grolier Poetry Peace Prize. He has published several books of poetry. The poetry series is partially funded by the ImagineIF Library Foundation and Humanities Montana through grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Montana’s Cultural Trust, and private donations. The program is also funded in part by coal severance taxes paid based upon coal mined in Montana and deposited in state cultural and aesthetic projects trust fund.
