Bigfork boys rally again, earn spot at Western A
POLSON — The Vikings like to close strong.
Austin Savik scored 22 points, five during a late 10-0 surge that carried Bigfork past Polson 55-46 in a Western A Divisional boys basketball play-in game Saturday.
Two days after a closing 17-1 surge pushed the Vikings past Whitefish 47-45, Savik scored in transition to put Bigfork (8-12) ahead for good, 41-39, with 3:15 left.
With 2:08 left Savik hit his third 3-pointer of the game for a 44-39 lead; his dish to Treker Hickey for an old-fashioned three-point play made it 49-39 with 1:01 remaining.
Jesse Vail hit four 3-pointers and scored 17 points for Polson (10-10). Three of his treys came in the first quarter, when he scored 13 points to help the Pirates take a 19-11 lead. His last answered one by Savik and knotted the game at 39-all. Savik had 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Alex Ochs added 10 points for the Vikings, who picked up the No. 4 seed out of the Northwest A. They’ll play Dillon at the Western A Thursday night.
