A high-energy musical with show-stopping dance numbers and unforgettable songs comes to the Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre with its production of Disney’s “Newsies, Jr.”

Set in 1899 New York City, “Newsies, Jr.” follows charismatic newsboy Jack Kelly (played by Collin Olson) and his band of “newsies” as they take a stand against publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer (Brody Henion), who has raised the cost of newspapers at the newsboys’ expense. With the help of his determined friend Crutchie (Teddy Cotton), brainy newsgatherer Davey (Willem Gwynn), and his fearless younger brother Les (Effie Sullivan), Jack rallies his fellow newsboys to strike for fair wages.
Their cause gains momentum when ambitious reporter Katherine Plumber (Tatum Butler) takes notice, helping them make headlines and inspire change. Meanwhile, the powerful and captivating entertainer Medda Larkin (Kaylin Stein) provides guidance and support to the young revolutionaries.
With thrilling choreography, heart-pounding anthems like “Seize the Day” and “Santa Fe,” and a cast of talented young performers, “Newsies, JR.” is an uplifting story of perseverance and unity that is perfect for audiences of all ages.
