BOISE, Idaho — Two Kalispell swimmers made waves at the Boise Speedo Sectionals.

Olivia Gibbons and Madeleine McGaughy represented Glacier Aquatic Club with impressive performances at the prestigious meet held in Boise, Idaho from March 13-16.

The Boise Speedo Sectionals attracts some of the best swimmers from the entire Western half of the United States, and both Gibbons and McGaughy proved their mettle as they faced off against the region’s top talent.

Gibbons set personal bests and made an impact in multiple events coach Dave Dorak informed the Daily Inter Lake via email.

Her performance in the 100-yard breaststroke was particularly noteworthy as she qualified for USA Futures, the next level National competition in July.

Gibbons also posted impressive times in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-meter breastroke.

“I’m really proud of my performances,” said Gibbons after the meet. “It was a great opportunity to race against such high-level competition. I’ve been training hard for this, and it feels good to see my efforts paying off.”

Gibbons, who has been training under the guidance of coach Dorak, is now turning her focus toward upcoming summer meets, with eyes set on racing at national-level competitions.

McGaughy made a statement in the butterfly and freestyle disciplines.

She had a remarkable showing in the 50-yard freestyle, where she finished in the top eight. She also posted a personal best in the 200-yard freestyle, securing a spot among the top contenders in the field.

“I felt really good about my swims. The competition here is fierce, but it pushes me to swim even faster and smarter,” McGaughy said. “I’m excited to see how I can continue improving as I prepare for future meets.”

“I’m proud to watch the work and trust in the process pay off,” said Dorak. “They’ve worked tirelessly, and their performances at the Sectionals reflect their commitment. I’m excited to see how they grow as they close out their senior years and continue towards college athletics.”
