Wolfpack walk-off: Glacier softball starts 2-0
Cazz called game.
Wolfpack senior Cazz Rankosky singled to right field, driving in Olivia Warriner and Karley Allen to give Glacier a 6-5 victory over CMR Thursday in high school softball.
Glacier followed that up with a 10-0 victory in five innings over Great Falls to complete the sweep.
The Wolfpack trailed CMR 3-0 entering the sixth inning, but that changed as Ava Grady drove in a run on a groundout. Chloe Farrell then knocked in another run while reaching on a Rustlers error. Farrell came home when Addy Cunningham homered to left, giving Glacier its first lead at 4-3.
CMR answered in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs to take the lead back: Aspyn Zuelke capitalized on one of four Wolfpack errors to take a 5-4 advantage into the bottom of the seventh.
In the final half frame, Warriner drew a lead-off walk. Allen got aboard thanks to a bunt single, setting the stage for Rankosky’s game-sealing hit.
In the circle, Olivia Gibbons pitched three innings, allowing three runs and striking out a pair. Warriner threw four innings in relief, allowing five hits and a pair of runs.
Myli Adams went the distance for the Rustlers, striking out one and allowing six runs (three earned).
In game two against the Bison Glacier found its footing in the third inning, putting eight runs on the board, including a Gibbons 3-run shot to center.
Warriner extended the lead to 10-0 in the fourth inning with a two-run single that drove in Gibbons and Grady. Gibbons went 3-for-3,
Gibbons pitched three innings, allowing two hits while striking out three. Grady threw two innings in relief with six strikeouts and allowed just one hit.
Kinslee Reeves and Harley Brown threw two innings each for the Bison.
Glacier coach Abby Snipes noted that, partly due to spring break, just four of her players had previously started for the Wolfpack before Thursday. So it was nice to see underclassmen like Cunningham, a sophomore, deliver.
“Her first-ever home run in a game,” Snipes said. “The first game we had a couple lineup changes because we had a couple people on spring break. It was awesome to see some freshmen and sophomores step up in a big way. Those are big wins for us.”
The Wolfpack’s pitching was encouraging as well.
“Olivia Gibbons had two starts and came out really strong,” Snipes said. “Olivia Warriner pitched well. The last game we put freshman Ava Grady in there and she’s a lefty and she had six strikeouts in two innings. She did a great job.”
Glacier’s next game ist at Missoula Big Sky next Thursday.
