Whitefish firefighter Matt Avelar hoses down the back portion of the building that serves as a day care for dogs. Fire crews were dispatched at 3:29 p.m. after a plume of black smoke coming from the building was seen from U.S. 93. No one was injured.

Animals saved from fire

Kalispell firefighter Brian Rauch, left, holds a rescued dog while Traci Stolte and Debbie Huntingon hold two other dogs on Wednesday afternoon at Stolte’s Pet Shop on U.S. 93 between Whitefish and Kalispell. All 15 dogs and two cats made it out safely from a fire at Stolte’s home and business. Assisting are Whitefish firefighters Mitch Avelar and Matt Weller.
