This oil painting by artist Allen Jimmerson recreates Howse
House, the first fur trading post in the Flathead Valley founded
for the Hudson's Bay Co. by Joseph Howse in 1810-11. It was located
south of Kalispell near American Indian trails close to the
Flathead River. Jimmerson worked from specifications for fur
trading outposts developed by Hudson's Bay Co. and the North West
Co. A celebration in Kalispell's Lawrence Park on Saturday
celebrates the 200th anniversary of the trading post founding.
