<p>Virginia Carter pets Baby, an Arabian mare, on Tuesday afternoon at her ranch in Ferndale. Baby was the pack horse for Carter’s husband, Tom, before he died of brain cancer earlier this month. Carter already has had 14 horses adopted but is trying to find homes for another 15 horses.</p>
