Art auction benefits Whitefish Community Library
Friends of Whitefish Community Library will host a Silent Art Auction fundraiser from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, in the Community Room of the Whitefish Community Library. The event is open to the public, offering the opportunity to view art and enjoy complimentary refreshments. The fundraiser includes a limited-edition framed Montana Centennial Poster signed by former Govs. Tim M. Babcock, Forrest H. Anderson, Thomas Lee Judge and Ted Schwinden, as well as the artist. Also offered are Gary Schildt Lewis-Clark Exploration Commemorative Series decanters and several other auction items.
Searching Sperry for signs of a missing hiker

A special 15-member team with technical rope rescue training - part of a broader search involving 90 miles of Glacier Park trails - focused on the Sperry Glacier area Saturday and Sunday. With no sign of Hwa after six days of searching, the effort to find the Kentucky man has been scaled back to two search teams.
Sandra Maria Hayes, 77
Sandra Maria Hayes, 77, passed away Monday, March 22, 2010, in Kalispell. Sandra was born Nov. 7, 1932, in Norway, the daughter of Pedar and Maria (Thomsen) Eskedal. Sandra was raised in Grimstad, Norway, and emigrated to the United States. She married Robert Hayes in Richmondville, N.Y., in 1951. Sandra enjoyed cooking at the Blacktail Inn, and loved to knit. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hayes; and a brother, Arnold Eskedal. She is survived by her children, Gary and wife Karlina Hayes of Helena, David and wife Debrah Hayes of Somers, and daughter, Evelyn, and husband Tim McCrea of Kalispell; brother, Robert Eskedal, and sister, Doris Warner, both of New York; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

NEW YORK (AP) — Alarmed by the case of an Ebola-infected New York doctor, the governors of New Jersey and New York on Friday ordered a mandatory, 21-day quarantine for all medical workers and other arriving travelers who have had contact with victims of the deadly disease in West Africa.
