Colonel Gary Bill Burnham Murray, Ret., 77, died Nov. 20, 2010, at his home in Whitefish, of natural causes. He was born in Shelby on Oct. 22, 1933, to Burnham and Asche Murray. He spent his early childhood in Whitlash and Shelby, later moving to Havre. He graduated from Havre High School in 1952 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from St. Mary s College in Xavier, Kan., in 1972. While attending Northern Montana College in 1953, he was drafted into the Army. He attended Officers Candidate School and was commissioned as a second lieutenant, becoming a fixed wing and helicopter pilot. He served one year in Korea and two tours in Vietnam, along with one tour in Germany. His last tour in Vietnam, he served in the field with the South Vietnamese military as an advisor. He remained in Vietnam after the war ended on the Peace Keeping Force and assisted with the exchange of Vietnamese prisoners. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Silver Star, along with other commendations. He was an instructor at the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., for three years. His later military years were spent at the Pentagon and Harry Diamond Laboratories on research and development of weaponry. His final tour was as an advisor to the National Guard and Reserves in a five state area, based at Fort Snelling, Minn. He retired in 1985 after 30 years of military service and moved with his wife Pauline back to his beloved Montana, settling in Whitefish. In 1987 he started a second career as a real estate agent and broker with Chuck Olson Real Estate. He enjoyed many years golfing, drinking lots of red wine, having lunch with his buddies, Friday night dinner with friends and soaking up the sun in Borrego Springs, Calif. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline, of Whitefish; daughter, Lizabeth, and Scott Patterson, and grandchildren, Kate and Greg of Ashburn, Va.; stepson, Greg Mueller, grandchildren, Dylan, Ayla, Van and Brandt, and great-grandson, Caden of Missoula; sister, Glee Murray, of Washington, D.C.; and brother, Greg Murray, of Billings; and extended family. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, at Whitefish Cemetery. There will be a reception immediately following at Whitefish Lake Golf Course. His favorite charities were Shepherd s Hand Clinic, Salvation Army or Yellowstone Boys and Girls Club. Arrangements are by Austin Funeral Home.

Edmond J. Solomon, 95, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at his home in Kalispell, with his immediate family nearby. He was born on Nov. 6, 1914, in Anaconda, to Seraphin and Mary Solomon. He attended schools in Anaconda, graduating from Anaconda High School in 1932. He then attended college at Montana State University-Bozeman, where he earned his bachelor s degree. Ed worked for Montana Power Company from 1936, until he retired as a chief gas engineer in 1976. He enjoyed woodworking, clock and watch repair, gardening and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katherine; a son, Roy; and two sisters, Loretta and Edna. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Gary and Linda Solomon of Kalispell, and Wayne and April Solomon of Lebanon, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home. Another memorial service and interment will be conducted in Butte, in the early summer of 2010. Mary E. Griffin, 91

Mary E. Griffin, 91, of Polson, passed into eternal rest at her home, surrounded by family on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010. Mary was born on April 2, 1919, in Hot Springs, to Niarada homesteaders Harv and Elsie Mullen. She grew up in Niarada riding a horse to the one-room Battle Butte School, where she attended until being sent to board in Kalispell to attend high school. She married George Ramsey in 1935 and they had six children together. They later divorced. She married Joe Griffen in 1948 and they had a daughter together. Mary raised sheep for much of her life and was happiest outside working in her flower garden or on her many crafts. She had a large extended family that she loved and listened to with a sympathetic ear. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Griffin; two sons, Wayne and Earl Ramsey; and two grandsons, Preston and William Redman. She is survived by five children, Shirley Redman, Donna Zielke and Gary Ramsey, all of Polson, Joyce Madsen of Kirkland, Wash., and Sandra Kelley of Minden, Nev.; 24 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Private interment will be held at Lakeview Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at noon on Thursday, Aug. 19, at the United Methodist Church in Polson, with Pastor John Payne officiating. Jacob K. Colclough, 17,

died Saturday, March 6, 2010, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident, as he returned from National Guard duty. He was born April 27, 1992, in Libby, to Alan and Karla (McCabe) Colclough. He grew up in Libby and attended the Libby Public Schools. He was a member of the class of 2010. Jacob enjoyed mixed martial arts, boxing, hunting, snowmobiling, boffer fighting, and movie night at Jake Waynick s house. He worked with the McDonalds family for almost three years. His best friend, Jake Waynick, describes Jacob as a friend who always had your back. He joined the Army National Guard on April 24, 2009. He completed his basic training on Aug. 21, 2009. His goal was to make a career of the Army National Guard. Survivors include his parents, Alan and Karla (McCabe) Colclough of Libby; a brother, Jason Colclough, of Libby; grandparents, Gary McCabe of Walla Walla, Wash., Kay and Michael Funk of Libby, Dave Colclough of Troy, and Joyce Colclough of Spokane; great-grandmother, Grace McCabe, of Walla Walla; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 12, at the Libby Senior High School Gymnasium, 150 Education Way. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home, 422 W. Second Street, in Libby.
