Roger Henry Ganiere, 89

Roger Henry Ganiere, 89, passed away Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at Lake View Care Center in Bigfork. Roger was born to Henry and Katherine (Fischer) Ganiere in Amboy, Minn., on Sept. 4, 1920. They moved to New Richland, Minn., in 1929 where he finished schooling. Roger worked on the family farm until 1942, when he married Vita Virginia Bertelson in Albert Lea, Minn. They moved to Columbia Falls in 1943. From 1944 to 1947, Roger served in World War II as a member of the 103rd Division 40th Infantry in Europe and fought in the Battle of Bulge. He was honorably discharged in February 1947. After his discharge he worked on the construction of Hungry Horse Dam as a diamond driller, and then went on to work for the Montana State Highway Department for 30 years, until his retirement. Roger was easy to love. He was a hard worker and a great family man who never forgot birthdays or anniversaries. His spare time was taken up caring for his beautiful and neat home and yard. The coffee pot was always on and friends were always welcome. Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; one grandson, Kenneth Ganiere; his four brothers Ernest, Charles, George and Albert; his sister, Barbara; and one sister who died in infancy. Roger is survived by his two sons, James and Sharrie Ganiere of Moses Lake Wash., and John and Donna Ganiere of Bigfork. He has four living grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren: Robert and Leslie Ganiere, and daughter Tiffany; Debra and Rey Ornelas, with children Milani, Nakai, and Keilanni; daughter-in-law, Carol Ganiere, and her three children, Gary, Crystal and Carli; Kristine Arndt; and Michelle and Jesse Remington, with children Blake, Sierra and Brayden. Roger also has numerous nieces and nephews with families in Minnesota. Internment of the ashes with military honors will be held at noon, Jan. 2, at Glacier Memorial Gardens, followed with a celebration of life service at 2 p.m. at the Bigfork United Methodist Church.

Percy F. Jelleff, 90

Percy F. Jelleff, 90, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at his Bigfork residence. Percy was born July 7, 1919, in Bigfork, to Willis and E. Evelyn (Fancher) Jelleff. He attended schools in Bigfork. After school Percy worked for the U.S. Forest Service until he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. Percy was one of the first to land on Normandy Beach, and then transported ammunition to the front lines and escorted German prisoners of war back to the beachfront area. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He then went to work for the Somers Lumber Company for a while before going to work as a dispatcher for Pacific Power, which he did until retiring in 1985. Percy was a member of the American Legion and for 10 years, volunteered with the Bigfork Fire Department. He enjoyed antler carving, collecting Indian artifacts, hunting, traveling with his family, dancing and music. Percy married Audrey Knight in Bigfork in 1948. Percy was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and E. Evelyn Jelleff; brothers, Fancher and Rob Jelleff; sister, Thelma Strom; daughter, Mona Weller; grandson, Mark Jelleff; and granddaughters, Olivia Jelleff and Holly Nielsen. Percy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Audrey, of Bigfork; children, Rocky and wife, Linda Jelleff, of Kalispell, and Randy and wife, Wendy Jelleff, of Beaverton, Ore.; 12 grandchildren, Shannon Nielsen, Sheila Uhde, Angie Chavez, Marsha Jelleff, Shane Nielsen, Aaron Jelleff, Raejon Nielsen, and Katie, Joe, Vanessa, Jordan and Cami Jelleff; numerous great-grandchildren; and other relatives, Gary Weller and Marilyn and Pinky Muir. Visitation for Percy will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at The River in Kalispell. Hazel C. Stensland, 93

Hazel C. Stensland, 93, passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at her residence in Kila. She was born April 10, 1916, out in a homestead shack by a midwife in Stanley, N.D., to John and Olga Anderson. When Hazel was 20 years old she married Hebert Hooper and moved to Jamestown, N.Y. She got a job as a nanny. She had two children, Sherman and Betty. Later she left Hebert and went back to Stanley. She met and married Nels in Sidney in 1944. They moved to Seattle during World War II to work for Boeing where she was a riveter. When the war was over they looked for a farm in Montana. They looked all over Montana and finally settled in Kalispell. They purchased a place south of town where they lived from 1947 through 1954. In 1953 they bought acreage near Kila and moved 16 head of cattle onto it. They drove up every day to milk and feed the cattle. They separated the milk and then sold the cream. Hazel raised cattle from 1953 to 2008. During that time she was a cook and manager of the Cadillac Hotel Restaurant. She also loved gardening, fishing, huckleberry picking and canning. She was a member of the Eagles. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nels, in 1966; a daughter, Betty Baker; three brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by two sons, Sherman Hooper of Kalispell, and Daniel Stensland and wife, Margie, of Kila; seven grandchildren, Cindy, Peggy, Jerry, Daniel, Steven, John and Gary; nine great-grandchildren; and one very special great-great-grandson, Colton. Funeral services for Hazel will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Burial will follow at C.E. Elaine Patrice Patty McClenahan, 56

Elaine Patrice Patty McClenahan passed away on Nov. 6, 2010, at the age of 56, in Kalispell. Patty was born in Hot Springs on Sept. 9, 1954. She grew up in the town of Plains and moved to Missoula for her freshman year of high school. She attended Hellgate High for two years and then moved to Chinook, where she graduated in 1972. She graduated from University of Montana in 1995 with a degree in music education. Her emphasis was in flute and piano. Patty continued to work towards her master s degree. Patty taught music to children, kindergarten through fifth grade at Ruder Elementary School. She loved accompanying the Missoula Children s Theater group. Patty was a member of the United Methodist Church and she frequently blessed the congregation with her gift of music. Patty was dearly loved by all of her students and touched by many lives through her music. Patty McClenahan is survived by her husband, Charles Haugen, of Columbia Falls; her daughter, Mandi Fedele, and Tony, and granddaughter, Isabella Fedele, of Helena; her mother, Florence McClenahan, of Plains; and her siblings, David McClenahan and Susan of Plains, Mary Ellen McClenahan-Bartell and Gary of Plains, and Laura Wood and Brian of Loma. Many beloved relatives also survive her. Her father, David James McClenahan, and her sister, Linda Carol Webber, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Plains, United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow. The service and reception will be open to all relatives and friends.
