Carol Winters, 59
Carol Winters, of Kalispell, died peacefully at home on Jan. 29, 2010, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 6, 1950, in Wolf Point, to Lottie and Clifford Hansen. She spent her childhood in Wolf Point and enjoyed playing softball, playing clarinet in school band, horseback riding, excelling at barrel racing and winning many trophy buckles. At a young age she worked for her grandfather in his implement business, later at the Elks club, and also assisted her grandmother on several long distance car trips. Carol attended both Carroll and Eastern Montana colleges, and graduated from the University of Montana with a double degree in speech therapy and Spanish. Carol went to Parras, Coahuila, Mexico, as a foreign exchange student while in high school. She returned to Mexico through her college exchange program to Patzcuaro, Michoacan. She formed and kept strong, loving bonds with her host families. After graduating from college she welcomed her youngest host family sister into her home for a year to experience life in Montana. Carol treasured the opportunities she had to visit with her host families, both in Mexico and at her home in Montana. The influence and love of her families from Mexico contributed to her career choice working with the Billings Migrant Program. While working in Billings, Carol met Russ Winters and they were married Aug. 21, 1976. Russ career in education took them from Billings to Florence to Kalispell, where they raised their sons, Jake and Toby. The boys active sports lives afforded Carol and Russ many opportunities for travel as well as new and lifelong friendships. During this time, Carol continued her career working in the Human Resource Department as the benefits administrator at Plum Creek in Columbia Falls. Carol s family was the light of her life and her grandchildren always brought special smiles to her face. Carol was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed her book club friends and their discussions. Their devoted friendship enriched her life. Carol s love of cards brought her another group of unique friends in her pinochle club. Last, but not least, she loved her cribbage games. If defeated, with a smile she always demanded a rematch. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and several relatives. She is survived by her husband, Russ; son, Jake, and Shannon, and their children, Molly and Ben; son, Toby; her brother, Lowell; her sister, Bev, and Dan; and her brother, Gary, and Bob; niece, Leticia, and Jeff; nephew, Erik, and Amanda; two great-nephews; several aunts; one uncle; and many cousins. Maybelle Stillman, 87
Our sweet, sweet mom, Maybelle Stillman passed away on the beautiful Sabbath morning of July 18, 2010, in West Jordan, Utah. She was born May 26, 1923, in Kalispell, the daughter of Victor Elmer Munter and Clara Tomina Christopherson Munter. She attended Northside grade school, seventh and eighth grades at Central in Kalispell and graduated in 1941 from Flathead County High School. She married Theron Jackson Stillman in Kalispell on Feb.10, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Cardston, Alberta, Church of Latter-day Saints Temple on Feb. 15, 1964. As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings. She was a primary teacher for over 20 years and was given a pin for her years of service. As a member of the Relief Society she served as social relations specialist, secretary to the Ward Relief Society presidency, as a visiting teacher and worked in genealogy extraction. She so enjoyed extracting (both in Montana and Idaho) and would always comment and marvel as to how far back the work was. She particularly enjoyed the people she was working on who came over on the Mayflower. Maybelle loved to make pillows. She would stitch specialized pillows in shapes that matched the person it was for. She made racecars, spud (couch potato) pillows and more. She also started quilting in her 60s, doing all the stitching by hand. It was just her extra personalized touch. She also loved cars (having grown up with a mechanic father) and was very knowledgeable about cars and surprised many with this interest. She loved her sister Doris, and spent as much time as she could with her enjoying endless visiting. She loved to go on day trip rides. You could never visit Mom without going on, at the very least, a couple of rides. It was the best, as was she. She leaves with us her deep testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the perfect example of living what she so firmly believed in. Thank you, Mom. Maybelle is survived by her children, Ted and Claudia Stillman, Gary O. and Jeanine Stillman, Larry A. and Loydene Stillman, Joanne J. and John Henden, Melanie G. Morrison, Tim K. Stillman and daughter-in-law, Kathy K. Stillman; 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theron J. Stillman; four children, Vickie M. Stillman, Daniel J. Stillman, Robert J. Stillman and Ronald R. Stillman; a granddaughter, Jennifer Rebecca Stillman; and two brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 23, in the Highland LDS 5th Ward Chapel, preceded by a viewing from 9 to 9:45 a.m. (10115 York Shire Drive, South Jordan, Utah). A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, in the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery in Kalispell. We wish to thank Dr. Steven Warren and the staff of Copper Ridge Care Center; in particular, nurses Dawna, Lynn, Alma and aid Tiffany, for their kind and loving care of our mother. We appreciate her sweet roommate Helen for being Mom s angel. We love you all. Condolences can be made to the family at serenicare.com.
Robert Bob Vish, 54,
passed away at his home in Kalispell on March 5, 2010. He was born Sept. 24, 1955, in the small town of Vulcan, located in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Bob s family moved to Montana in 1960. He was raised in Whitefish and enjoyed all of his school years there. He was a history buff, an all-star baseball pitcher and also enjoyed playing football as a proud Bulldog. When Bob was 18 years old, he entered the U.S. Air Force, serving as a security specialist in Minot, N.D. He additionally served a four-year term in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kittyhawk, as an air traffic controller. Bob had many happy memories of his West-Pac cruises, especially the initiation he experienced when they crossed the equator. Returning to the Flathead, Bob was employed at Plum Creek Timber Co., for several years and then accepted a position with Semitool when it was a very young company in the valley. He grew with its strides and enjoyed his final position with Semitool as the Asian sales support manager where his responsibilities covered Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and China. Loving history as much as Bob did, he loved the travel aspect of this position, marveling at many discoveries, including the Great Wall of China. He opened his home to many of his foreign clients who had never experienced a backyard campfire, venison steaks and a starlit Montana sky. Through the years Bob s career continued in sales and marketing with Craftsman in Wood, Artisans Custom Doors, Century Tel, Snow Creek Tractor Co., and Montana Rifle Co. To describe Bob as an avid outdoorsman would be an understatement. Hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, snowshoeing, canoeing, cutting firewood ... these loves defined him and offered him his greatest peace of mind. He also loved wood working and had made several beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. Bob had an wonderful sense of humor and truly enjoyed creative cooking ... we never knew what his turkeys would be stuffed with at Thanksgiving. Other interests included gardening, canning, smoking fish, and listening and dancing to all types of music, but old classic country was his favorite. Bob was a great father, brother and friend. He loved people, wanted happiness for everyone and always said, Today s going to be a good day ... Bob was blessed with two beautiful children whom he loved with all his heart, Adam Vish, 14 years old, of Kalispell, and Nicole Vish, 24 years old, of Milwaukee.
