TRANSCRIPT
August can feel a little frantic. I find myself cramming in those final summer bucket list activities while tending to the harvest, gathering school supplies and finding a few moments to myself to touch grass and relax. I’ll be channeling my inner bear this week as I stock up on huckleberries. My favorite spot is overflowing with giant ripe berries like I haven’t seen in several years.
With the harvest in mind, you could spend the entire week perusing farmer’s and community markets.
On Tuesdays from 5:00 to 7:30 pm, Whitefish hosts the Downtown Farmer’s Market. Enjoy old time fiddle music on Tuesday August 20th with Rocky Mountain Thyme.
On Thursdays from 5:00 to 8:00 pm spend the evening at the Columbia Falls Community Market and support their featured nonprofit of the week, the Columbia Falls Lions Club and enjoy live music by Jamie Wyman. Folks, the melons are ripe! Dixon melons will be for sale at this week’s market. If you know you know ... and if you don’t I recommend waiting in line to take home the best melons ever.
Polson is the place to be for their Friday Polson Farmer’s Market from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm to gather up Flathead Lake Cheese, local sweet treats and produce from local farmers. And, yes, another Dixon melon opportunity.
Saturdays have the Kalispell Farmers Market in the parking lot of Flathead Valley Community College from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. This expansive market hosts local food trucks as well as local farmers, makers and greenhouses.
Sundays are for browsing downtown CFalls at the Columbia Falls Farmers Market from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm to gather fresh eggs, sourdough bread and an eclectic variety of handiwork.
Mondays, of course, are for whooping it up at the Bigfork Monday Market. Monday August 26th has music by Mudslide Charley and food trucking by Copacabana Grill and Frey Guys Funnel. Yum!
The Raven in Bigfork is the place to be this week for craft cocktails, great food, live music and community. The view isn’t so bad either. On Monday August 19th howl at the moon during their Full Moon Party. Enjoy music from Benny Weag and welcome the Blue Moon as it shines down over Flathead Lake.
Wednesday August 21st tune in for strummer Paul Cataldo starting at 7:00 pm. And on Saturday August 24th Raven goers swoon to the sweet voice of Miller Campbell.
On Thursday August 22nd local nonprofit dynamo Land to Hand hosts a Farm Dinner at the White Raven Vineyard in Columbia Falls. At last check, there were still a few seats available for this pairing dinner featuring chef’s Ellie and Orion Heyman (formerly of The Wich Haus), wine from the White Raven Winery and beer from Backslope Brewing.
Friday August 23rd get your hootenanny on in support of the Whitefish Trail. Whitefish's Depot Park hosts this annual event celebrating local trails and open lands from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Get down to music by Badger Hound, 20 Grand and Them Coulee Boys. Kiddos 12 and under are free and encouraged to bring their bikes and helmets to ride the kid obstacle course. Food trucks, an amazing raffle and familiar faces make the Whitefish Trail Hootenanny an event worth attending.
Support the SNOW Bus during the annual Summer S.N.O.W. Bus Brewfest held in Whitefish’s Depot Park on Saturday August 24th from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Brews, food trucks and live music help you support our favorite wheeled access to the Big.
