TRANSCRIPT

The first day of fall is just around the corner and I am looking forward to sweater weather. Cozy events abound this week as we recognize Bear Awareness Month, practice our stein holding, stock up on reading material and get to know our feathered friends a little better.

Thanks for tuning in to the Daily Inter Lake’s Local Events podcast. Now, let’s find your next best time.

Whitefish Legacy Partners are inviting you to brush up on your bear awareness on Tuesday September 17th at 6:00 pm at the Lion Mountain Trailhead of The Whitefish Trail. Come prepared for a 1-to-2-mile hike to learn about bear behavior, habitat and practice with bear spray. Ok ... not REAL bear spray! This event is free and suitable for all ages. Registration required.

Amazing Place Music presents Inspired! On the Stage with Mike Eldred on Friday September 20th at 7:30 pm at the Whitefish Performing Art Center. Follow Mike’s 40-year musical journey as an acclaimed vocalist. Special guests are promised, and this is sure to be an evening to remember.

Flathead Audubon has some great offerings to learn more about our feathered friends this week. Join their Badrock Canyon Birding Field Trip on Tuesday September 17 near Columbia Falls. Darcy Thomas and Michel De Leon Tyler take you on a three-mile trek to look for resident birds and migrators.

Flathead Audubon and Wild Wings Raptor Recovery team up on Thursday September 19th at 11:00 am at Montana Wild Wings in Kalispell to learn how to identify hawks. Presenters will be assisted by the Wild Wings ambassador raptors. It is such a treat to meet these magnificent birds up close!

Sunday September 22nd at 9:00 am join Don Casey of Flathead Audubon for a Jewel Basin Hawk Watch Field Trip. Expect to see more than 100 raptors as the last few weeks of September offer peak numbers and diversity of passing birds. Registration required.

Besides having their fall programming in full swing, the Flathead County Library will benefit from a few unique happenings this week. On Wednesday September 18th head to the Bigfork branch at 5:00 pm for a presentation on the new library’s participation with Design for Freedom, a global movement to eliminate forced labor in the building materials supply chain and explore the new Bigfork branch of the Flathead County Library.

The Friends of the Flathead Library host their annual Book Sale September 20 through 22nd at the Kalispell Center Mall from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Pore through thousands of donated books and videos and create your stack of good reads to sustain you through the fall and winter. All proceeds support the library's programming.

Save the Date for the Great Northwest Oktoberfest in Whitefish’s Depot Park for two weekends September 26th to 28th and October 3rd to 5th. Thursday September 26th is Local’s Night with free admission and Saturday September 28th is Family Day complete with kiddo activities and chicken dancing. Some of my favorite food trucks – that's you Knucklhed BBQ and ZapoTaco – will be there to feed the dancing masses. Thanks to the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce for hosting such a long-standing good time.

Finish out September at Whitefish’s favorite outdoor venue and food truck park, Thirty Eight. Some great acts have graced their stage this summer and this week is no exception. Find Maggie and Don Caverly on Tuesday September 17th, Erica Sunshine on Thursday September 19th, the rascals from Knotty Pines on Friday September 20th and Brent Jameson for two nights the 21st and 22nd.

Once again, it’s my pleasure to bring you all the fun Northwest Montana has to offer. Thanks for tuning in. Please like, comment and subscribe to all the awesome Daily Inter Lake podcasts wherever you are listening.
