Woodrow Garrison Woody Hutchens Jr., 63

Woody Hutchens, 63, went to live with Jesus on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009. Woodrow Garrison Hutchens Jr., was born Feb. 6, 1946, in Staunton, Va., to Woodrow G. and Glenna M. Wine Hutchens of Greenville, Va. He attended grade school and high school there. He joined the Air Force after graduation in 1964. He was later stationed in Lakeside, where he met his wife, KC. He was discharged from the Air Force in 1968. Woodrow and Katherine E. Cullen were married in 1968, and lived in Somers. Woody went to work at Anaconda Aluminum that same year. They moved to Columbia Falls to the family residence in 1978. Woody was an avid motorcyclist. He loved bow hunting carp, antelope and deer with his brother Tim of Gillette, Wyo. He enjoyed rifle hunting, especially for elk. For years the family enjoyed old car restoration. Woody also enjoyed collecting anything old. He was preceded in death by their daughter, Dixie Lee; his dad, and his brother, Houston, both of Virginia. He is survived by his mother, Glenna; sister, Mildred Simmons, and her family of Virginia; his wife, KC, at the family home; his son, Butch, his wife, Nova Lee, and their sons, Daniel and Jacob, and his daughter Katy Jo, and her sweetie, Greg, all of Columbia Falls; and his acquired children, TJ and Carol Toaves, and their son, Tyler, and Chrissy Frerich and her daughters, Brianna and Jayla, of Kalispell; many much loved brothers- and sisters-in-law; and too many good friends to count. His viewing is from 1 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 20, at Columbia Mortuary. The service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the funeral home, followed by burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Alfred Edward Binnie, 89

Dearly loved Alfred E. Binnie ÒAlfÓ passed away at Brendan House with Joan at his side on July 17, 2009. Born Jan. 6, 1920, in Montreal, Quebec, Alf completed school and joined the Royal Air Force Bomber Command in England to become a pilot during World War II. Surviving an air attack behind enemy lines in 1942, he became a POW for four years in Germany. Upon return to Canada, Alf purchased Mountain View Bungalow Resort and during the winter was director of the ski school at Jasper in Quebec at St. Donat, a well-known area in the Laurentians. Alf was always an avid skier and relished entertaining his guests at the resort. His love for music and playing the guitar continued throughout his life. Alf and Joan were married in 1950 and to this day she remains the love of his life. Alf and Joan moved to Long Beach, Calif., in 1959 when Alf joined California Federal Bank. Later, Alf became a certified appraiser with MAI designation. They enjoyed their life in California, with camping, skiing and gardening the focus of their spare time. Alf was very interested in classic cars and until recently made the annual trip to Carmel, Calif., for the car show. After almost 30 years in California, Alf retired and they chose to move north so that he could pursue his love of skiing. They settled in Whitefish after building their home together and have maintained it with meticulous attention. Alf and Joan have lived in Whitefish for almost 20 years. Alf was a dear and gentle man and will be missed. The family has chosen no service at this time. Edmond Ed Dean Jaeger, 55

Edmond Ed Dean Jaeger, 55, of Elmo, loving husband, father, grandfather, teacher and friend, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a six-year battle with cancer. Ed was born on July 21, 1955, in Oak Harbor, Wash., a son of the late Roland and Shirley Jaeger. Ed attended Polson High School and later went on to join the Army National Guard. In 1977, Ed married Leanor Roach in Richmond, Kan., and from this union three sons were born. He was a self-employed marine mechanic for over 20 years and for the past several years was an employee of Profection Powerboat and Chief Cliff Hot Rods. Ed enjoyed classic cars, hunting, camping, fishing, motorcycling, four-wheeling and horses, but above all, he was devoted to his family. Those left with cherished memories are his wife, Leanor; his three sons, Bo and Tara Jaeger, Mathew and Jessica Jaeger, and Thomas and Kyla Jaeger; his stepfather, Fred Samson; three sisters, Radine Shanks, Kathy Walker and Connie Tucker; seven brothers, Dan Jaeger, Rich Jaeger, Jim Jaeger, Allen Samson, Fred Samson, David Samson and Rob Samson; and four very dear grandchildren, Bethany, Haden, Gwendolyn and Kendyl. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at Grogan Funeral Home, 101 Sixth Ave. E., Polson. Friends may call at the funeral home two hours prior to the service on Wednesday. Betty Jean McDonald, 86

Betty Jean McDonald, 86, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at St. Peter s Hospital in Helena. She was born to the late Henry and Marie Evans on Dec. 10, 1923, in Helena. Betty married Nicholas R. Mergenthaler in 1945, and they divorced in 1963. They had three children. Betty then met and married Charles E. Chuck McDonald on July 31, 1967, and they just recently celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. Betty and Chuck lived in Kalispell and owned the McDonald School of Music from 1968 to 1978. Betty was also an avid painter and attended Carroll College, where she studied art. Betty s paintings were shown in art shows all over the Northwest, including Canada. Her art won Best of Show and People s Choice awards during these shows. In 1980, Betty and Chuck relocated to Helena and owned and operated High Country Plumbing until their retirement in 2000. Her favorite activities were hunting and fishing with her family and friends. Betty is survived by her husband, Chuck; three children, David Mergenthaler of Kalispell, Roger and Martha Mergenthaler of Helena, and Lynn and Judy Mergenthaler of Kalispell; and her sister, Barbara Toftley of Seattle. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Jim Cooper of Unionville; as well as 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and a nephew. Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Claudette Cooper of Unionville. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Betty s life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the family home, 406 S. Park in Helena. For information, please call (406) 442-4872.
