Public education system is failing our youth

What would be the fate of a baseball manager whose team had a record of 50 years of losing seasons with each succeeding year falling further down in the standings? Would you continue to not only fully fund, and also provide periodic raises, bonuses and other perks to include a generous retirement plan to the coaching staff? Americans have a low tolerance for perennial losers. There is one very glaring exception and that is America’s K-12 public education system whose effectiveness has dropped to poor and is well on the way to pathetic.

William A. Jensen, 75

Our world lost one of the good guys … William A. Jensen, 75, mercifully passed away at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula from a horrible lung disease on July 4, 2017, after keeping it at bay for many years. He didn’t let it slow him down until the last few months. A friend said recently that he lived large and globally while still appreciating the simple pleasures of family, friends, mud, and nature. In the early hours of July 6, much of Montana felt a 5.8 earthquake. We’re sure it was Bill saying farewell, and wishing Carole a happy birthday.

Karen Haarr

Our lovely, classy, smart, admirable, kookie, and much beloved Karen King Haarr passed away at home Dec. 7, 2019, following a long battle with cancer. In true Karen fashion, she “raged against the dying of the light” for much longer than seemed possible, rallying again and again to share as many more inimitable Karen moments with us as she could.
