Fifth graders at Elrod were encouraged to dress the part as they celebrated Colonial Day with activities including Spinning and Weaving, Quill Writing, Tin Punching, Candle Making and Wood Working.

After falling in the first two games to Missoula Big Sky 25-20 and 25-17 in their Class AA play-in volleyball match, the Flathead Bravettes stormed back and pushed the Eagles to the brink of a fifth game but couldn’t put away the fourth and fell 3-1 to bring their season to a close on Tuesday at Flathead High School.

After an emotional senior day program before the match, it took Glacier some time to work into its final home volleyball match of the season. Once it did, the Wolfpack dominated, holding Missoula Big Sky to 16 kills as a team in a three-set Western AA victory 25-20, 25-10, 25-17 on Thursday evening.

The Jan. 25 Democratic debate was very interesting. Even though I am a conservative voter, I like the way Bernie Sanders comes across. He is a good man and you can tell he whole-heartedly believes in the message he gives: free medical service and education for all.

Fritz Byde Lamey, 70

Fritz Byde Lamey, 70, of Eureka, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at Health Center Northwest in Kalispell. He was born Sept. 25, 1939, in Libby to Byde and Juanita Bozarth Lamey. The family moved to Eureka in 1948. He was raised on the family ranch near the Canadian border and attended school in Eureka, graduating from Lincoln County High School with the class of 1957. He had a real eye for cattle and was active in 4-H. He won several livestock judging awards. In high school he excelled in football, basketball and boxing. He attended junior college in California. He then returned home and joined the family s registered Hereford ranch on Phillips Creek. He raised and exhibited many grand and reserve champion cattle with his father. He married Janet Holmes in 1962. They had four children and later separated. In the early 80s he began breeding and raising performance horses. He had a passion for competing on the cutting circuit and he earned a reputation for breeding top quality horses. Survivors include his children, Chris Lamey of Benson, Ariz., Penny Lynch and husband, Jerry, of Winnemucca, Nev., Cory Lamey and wife, Kari, of Wise River, Mont., and Tracy Ward of Douglas, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Osler, and husband, John; and a special friend, Kahnee Winchester. A celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the First and Last Chance in Eureka. Local arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Eureka.

Wade C. Walker, 53, passed peacefully Sunday, May 20, 2007, at his home in Kalispell after a six-month struggle with cancer. Comfort and care were given by his wife and family until the end. He was born Sept. 25, 1953, in Vernal, Utah, to Don C. and Anna Louise (Peterson) Walker.
