Forest Service OKs logging, trails in northwestern Montana
KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service has approved a commercial logging and wildfire reduction proposal in northwestern Montana that includes about 25 miles of new recreational trails.

Quilt Artist Dawn Siden of Somers has been accepted as a finalist in the 2018 Imagine Quilt Competition at the 29th annual Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival. The festival will be held in Hampton, Virginia from Feb. 22-25.

Philip Bergmann, 86, died of old age on June 25, 2008, in Oakland, Calif. Phil was born March 31, 1922, and grew up in Kalispell, the fifth child of Nora and Jim Bergmann.

Margaret F. Cummings, 85, of Whitefish, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at Brendan House in Kalispell. She was born at Covington, Ky., on June 16, 1924, the daughter of James and Tootsie Clayton, and was raised and educated in northern Kentucky.

Lloyd Eugene Cyr, 93, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell. He was born in St. Joe, Idaho, on Aug. 28, 1915, to Larry and Anna (Groff) Cyr.

Gordon Coe was born Feb. 25, 1931, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Floyd and Vivia (Lake) Coe. He walked this world in his own time and rhythm, savoring his moments, until a lengthy battle with prostate cancer pulled him from us on Jan. 11, 2008.

Eleanor B. Snyder passed away on Aug. 25, 2007. She was born in Kansas City, Kan., on March 1, 1911, the daughter of Roger B. Brewster, M.D., and Edith McCarty Brewster. Eleanor lost her mother in 1922.

Flathead County Sheriff's deputies
arrested a woman, 25, on suspicion of assault on a minor after she allegedly punched an 8-month-old baby in the White Birch campground in Evergreen on Sunday night. The baby was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center, and the woman was taken to the county jail.
