Douglas B. Remick, 67
Douglas B. Remick, 67, a longtime Flathead Valley resident, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at his home in Helena. Doug was born on Dec. 2, 1941, in a farmhouse near Red Lake Falls, Minn. He was a retired lieutenant colonel from the Montana Army National Guard and an insurance agent for American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company. Doug was a proud member of the Hibernians and Eagles. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved spending summers at the lake fishing in his boat, the Leaking Lena, loved hunting, and his Minnesota Vikings. Doug is survived by his daughter, Renee Nowfel, of Leesburg, Va.; sons, Scott Remick and Shelley of San Diego, Ryan Remick and Tina of London, Kyle Bitney of Kalispell, and Cory Bitney of Missoula; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his father, Bernard Remick, of Red Lake Falls, Minn.; siblings, Sylvia Morey and Bruce of Hamilton, Andrew Remick of Helena, Suzanne Combs and Roger of Peoria, Ariz., Dwight Remick of Ritzville, Wash., and Craig Remick and Jo of Omaha, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Madeline (Amiot) Remick; and his brother, Ronald Remick. His funeral Mass took place on Dec. 4, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Helena. He was buried at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Fort Harrison with graveside military honors. Arrangements were handled through Hagler-Anderson Funeral Home in Helena. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Doug s name online to St. Jude Children s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org or a charity of donor s choice.
County fair is a community effort
It was heartening to see the Northwest Montana Fair rebound this year, after taking a tumble in 2006.

Vivian Moore Luke, 97
Vivian Moore Luke, 97, of Polson, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at Polson Health and Rehabilitation. Born in Sweet Grass on March 27, 1913, Vivian was the daughter of Alfred Roy Moore and Hannah M. (Johnson) Moore. After Vivian graduated from Sweet Grass High School in 1930, the family moved to Kalispell where she met and married LeRoy Bud Luke on Dec. 7, 1933. They moved to Polson in 1952, farming in Valley View. Vivian joined the Valley View Woman s Club at that time and had remained a member. She also worked in the Lake County Treasurer s Office and the Lake County Welfare Office, retiring in 1978. After retiring, Vivian and her husband of 66 years, Bud, did much traveling in their motor home to many states, visiting their children; and also to Alaska. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Bill; a great-granddaughter, Amber; and a son-in-law, Harold. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Richmond, of Kalispell; sons, Clifford and Bobbie Luke, and Ralph and Lynda Luke, all of Polson, and Duane and Eleine Luke of Lacy, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Betty Luke, of Harrison; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Services for Vivian include a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, at the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery in Kalispell. A memorial service will then begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Grogan Funeral Home, 101 Sixth Ave. E., Polson. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family online at www.groganfuneralhome.com. The staff of Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory, Polson, considers it a privilege to care for Mrs. Luke s family.
