Ceramics show comes to Kalispell
A new exhibition featuring the works of 25 Montana-based clay artists will open at the Hockaday Museum of Art on Thursday, Feb. 15 from 5-7 p.m. “Beyond Craft: The Art of Ceramics,” will be on display at the museum through April 7.

Fall fun at the Pumpkin Patch
After more than two hours of exploration, 7-year-old Dominic Battello picks out his very own pumpkin to take home Wednesday afternoon at Sweet Pickin's Pumpkin Patch off Columbia Falls Stage Road, 1 1/2 miles north of Montana 35. Along with hundreds of pumpkins, the patch offers a variety of children's activities including mazes, bouncy balls, tractor rides, giant sandboxes and petting zoos with rabbits, goats, sheep, donkeys and chickens. Sweet Pickin's is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m. through October. Admission is $5 or free to those 2 and under. Pumpkins are 25 cents a pound. passed away on Friday April 25, 2008, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell. Jerry was born on May 1, 1943, in DeMotte, Ind., to Robert L. and Bernice (Fischer) Akers. He graduated from Rolling Prairie High School in 1961.

Peggy Jean Taylor, 75
Peggy Jean Taylor, 75, of Tempe, Ariz., passed away peacefully on Oct. 15, 2009. She was born on June 10, 1934, growing up in the Spokane area, and residing in Montana where she was a legal secretary in Helena and Kalispell. She was active in women s bowling and softball and held offices in both organizations. She moved to Tempe, where she worked for America West Airlines until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her son, Darryl Taylor, in 2002. She is survived by her sist er, Shirley, and Bob Axworthy of Oklahoma City, and cousin, Jim Hafterson, of Seattle, both of whom supported Peggy; and her special friend, Rosie Heiman, in her final days. Robert Dale McMurren, loving husband of Irene McMurren, passed away on July 25, 2009, at 9:20 p.m. at his Bigfork ranch after a short battle with cancer.

Julie A. Singer, 47, of Olathe, Kan., passed away Sept. 6, 2010, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. A memorial service was held for her on Sept. 10. Julie was born May 14, 1963, in Portland to Donald and Janis Singer. She lived her childhood in Oregon and Montana, then moved to Kansas when she was 25. She enjoyed being with her son and watching him play sports, spending time with her family, friends, traveling and playing cards. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald. Julie is survived by her mother, Janis; and loving son, Grant; also many wonderful friends. We will miss her and her sense of humor. A memorial fund in Julie s name has been established for her son, Grant, at First National Bank of Olathe, 15084 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe, KS 66062.
Flathead County sheriff
Flathead County sheriff's deputies arrested a 25-year-old woman on suspicion of partner or family member assault against her husband after yelling, throwing things and breaking their wedding pictures. The husband reportedly was cut by broken glass from a flashlight.
Kalispell police took a report about a man who came out of a home
on West Center Street, threw a strap at a truck and yelled at the driver to slow down. The driver claimed to be going only 25 mph.
Sentence is deferred for felony stalker
A 25-year-old Kalispell man was given a three-year deferred sentence Jan. 3 in Flathead District Court after pleading guilty to a felony charge of stalking.

Carol (Rohrbach) Contreras, 53, formerly of Columbia Falls, passed away Oct. 25, 2006, at her daughter's home in Tucson, Ariz. Carol was born Aug. 27, 1953, in Fargo, N.D., to Wilbur and Jean Rohrbach. They moved shortly after to Columbia Falls, where Carol graduated from Columbia Falls High School in 1971.

Norma Claire Lowndes, 66
Norma Claire Lowndes, born Sept. 25, 1946, passed away suddenly of cancer on the evening of Jan. 8, 2013. For the few days that she was in the hospital, her family and friends surrounded her. It is thought she must have had cancer for a while, but her strength for carrying burdens and being everyone’s rock continued until the week before her death.
