Flathead County sheriff

Six thefts were reported at Whitefish Mountain Resort during the weekend, the Flathead County Sheriff's Office said. Stolen items included two sets of skis and poles, two snowboards, two pairs of goggles and a camera.

Dallas J.C. Nelson, 66

Dallas J.C. Nelson died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, of a brain hemorrhage at Kalispell Regional Medical Center. He was born April 1, 1944, in Kalispell and grew up in Whitefish. A 1964 graduate of Whitefish High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. On Nov. 5, 1972, Dallas married the love of his life, Marilyn Patton. Together, they purchased a farm west of Kalispell where they grew hay and raised their children, livestock from dairy cows to pigs to chickens to beef cattle, and many beloved dogs and cats. Dallas, a trained welder, had many talents including building and operating computers, building violins, fishing, hunting, refurbishing antique cars, rebuilding boats and remodeling his home. He was an expert cook, particularly on his barbecue and smoker. Dallas was the proud ride captain of the Patriot Guard, a motorcycle group that honors veterans by assisting with funerals and locating veterans unclaimed remains at funeral homes, for burial with military honors. Dallas is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Allie, and husband, Kevin, Sturgess; sons, Bill and John; son-in-law, Tim Grant; brother, Jerry, and wife, Sarah; sister, Betty, and husband, Bill Baldwin; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Daughter Sarah Fern, son Dallas Raymond, and daughter Dawn Grant preceded him in death. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Glacier Memorial Cemetery, immediately followed by a potluck at the Flathead Valley Cowboy Church on U.S. 93 North. When drunk, pass out at your own house

Flathead County Sheriff's deputies responded to a ranch on U.S. 93 near Olney to investigate several 911 hang ups. An ambulance was requested during at least one of the abbreviated calls. Upon arrival, deputies found the door kicked in and a 36-year-old man, who had been drinking, passed out in an office chair. The barely coherent man told deputies he entered the building after hearing voices inside. He was arrested and charged with trespassing and criminal mischief.

Eileen Anne Kane, 81

Eileen Anne Kane, 81, a resident of Whitefish for the past 37 years, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at North Valley Hospital. Eileen was born in New York City on Dec. 17, 1928, the daughter of James and Ellen McNamara and was raised and educated there. She later married James Thomas Kane. In the 1960s, she and her husband owned and operated a Shell gas station in the Bronx. In 1972, after 11 years, the family moved to Montana, coming first to Bozeman. They came to Whitefish in May of 1973 where they purchased Frenchy s Chinese Gardens which they operated until it burned to the ground in 1974. In 1975, they built the Shangri-La Supper Club, and in 1989 started and operated the Par 3 on 93. They continued to operate the golf course aspect of that business until retiring in 2005. Eileen s husband preceded her in death, in 2006. She had been a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Whitefish and enjoyed participating in various church activities. Eileen was also noted as an excellent cook and found great enjoyment in handcrafts, most especially crocheting. Eileen is survived by her children, Brian Kane of Whitefish, Deirdre Kane of Kalispell, and James Kane of South Bridge, Mass.; her sister, Theresa Schneider, of San Diego; and her grandchildren, Maureen, Sean, Thomas, James, Austin and Kayden. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Whitefish. Parish vigil and rosary services will be at 7 p.m. this evening, April 11, at the Austin Funeral Home. Interment services will be later next week at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, N.Y.
