Norman Lyon, 79

Norman Lyon, 79, passed away peacefully Feb. 20, 2010, with his family by his side, after fighting a very courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born June 23, 1930, in Kalispell to Paul and Mabel (Boyer) Lyon. Norman grew up and attended school in the Flathead Valley. He was recently baptized and became a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church. On Sept. 1, 1956, Norman married the love of his life, Olive Fredrick, and shared 53 wonderful years together. He worked for Kalispell Lumber and then moved to Troy where he worked for J. Neils Lumber Company. During that time they adopted two beautiful daughters, Sandy and Judy. The family then returned to Kalispell in 1963 where he worked for the Somers Tie Plant as a maintenance engineer. Together they enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling with three other couples and called themselves The Shaky Eight. They took many adventures, including two unforgettable Alaskan trips, and many more around the U.S. Also being snow birds for many years, they spent lots of time in Arizona Norman belonged to the Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years and had the opportunity during that time to be the fire chief. For over 60 years he was a member of the Kalispell Eagles. Being a member of the Flathead Tractor and Engine Association was one of his favorite hobbies because he always had some sort of engine he would tinker with. If Norman wasn t working on an engine he would be out fishing; for any day was a great day to catch a fish. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mabel Lyon; brother, James Lyon; and his in-laws, Gertie and Oliver Fredrick. He is survived by his loving wife, Olive; and two daughters, Sandy Krusoff, and Judy Hammack and husband Brandon. There are four grandchildren, Destiny Townsend and husband Brad, Mikelle Eckley and husband Waylin, Emily Buckhouse, and Carissa Krusoff; and two great-grandchildren, Zayden and Abbigail Townsend; and the best lifelong group of friends. The family would like to thank Home Options/Hospice for all their help in his final time, and thank you to all our friends who helped out during this tough moment. A celebration of Norman s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at Calvary Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, Norman would love for you all to take a friend fishing. Memorials can be made to Home Options/Hospice, Calvary Lutheran Church, or charity of your choice. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is caring for Norman s family. You are invited to go to www.jgfuneralhome.com to offer condolences and view Norman s tribute wall.

Hazel M. (Horn) Gore, 89

On Sunday, July 25, 2010, our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and best friend peacefully left this earth to dance in Heaven with her husband, Lester. Hazel was born on June 30, 1921, in Moore. She was the fifth of eight children born to Albert Vernon and Laura Alice (Peters) Horn. She attended grade school and grew up on Cottonwood Creek near Lewistown. On Nov. 2, 1938, she married the love of her life, Lester Allen Gore, in Lewistown. In 1943 they moved to the Flathead Valley where they built their log home in Evergreen. Hazel was an avid square dancer most of her life and, along with her husband, Lester, and many friends, they built Gore Hall next to their house, so they could have a place close to home to dance. They were instrumental in organizing round dance and square dance clubs in the Flathead Valley. Many considered Hazel the Matriarch of Square Dancing. Hazel worked for the Evergreen School District for 19 years, retiring in 1983. She loved fishing, camping, puttering in her flower beds and walking barefoot in the grass on warm, sunny days. She took great pride in her home, her yard, her family and her friends. She had a terrific sense of humor and an infectious laugh. Hazel was a very sincere and caring person, and a loving mother and wife. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. Hazel s husband of 62 years, Lester, preceded her in death on April 23, 2000. She was also preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters, Everett, Gilbert, Ellis, Viola, LaVonne, Lela and Lula. Hazel is survived by her four children, Marilyn Wiard and her husband, Chuck, of Whidbey Island, Wash., Beverly Grimm of Kalispell, Diana Griffin and her husband, Bill, of Sun City, Ariz., and Richard Gore and his wife, Valerie, of Glendale, Ariz. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Mike Emerson of Kalispell, Pamela Fisher and her husband, Jerry, of Stanwood, Wash., Bradley Gore of Arizona, and Darren Gore and his wife, Maureen, also of Arizona; four great-grandchildren, Gavin, Shaylee, Ashley and Brittany; numerous nieces and nephews, and many special friends. We would like to say a special Thank you to all of the Angels at Brendan House and Hospice who took such loving and compassionate care of Hazel. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 24 at Glacier Memorial Gardens. The family suggests that any memorial contributions that you wish to make in Hazel s name, be made to Home Options Hospice, 175 Commons Loop, Suite 100, Kalispell, MT 59901; or to the charity of your choice.

Richard K. Dick King, 85

Our uncle and friend, Richard K. Dick King of Columbia Falls, died of natural causes Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center, after a short illness. Dick was born Nov. 21, 1924, in Whitefish, the third son of Edgar H. King and Margaret M. Taber King. Dick was raised in the Flathead Valley, Great Falls and the Roseburg, Ore., area. He graduated from Whitefish High School in 1942. Dick hired out on the railroad in 1943. Soon after that he enlisted in the Army, being discharged in 1946. He returned to Whitefish and continued his railroad career, retiring in 1984 with 41 years of service. Dick enjoyed the outdoors and spent many days hiking, camping and fishing, mainly in Glacier National Park. In 1970 Mel Ruder crowned Dick King of Glacier for having hiked the entire perimeter of Glacier Park, as well as most developed and undeveloped trails throughout the park. Dick completed that goal in the summer of 1969. Dick spent many summer days enjoying the beauty and serenity of Oly Lake, his favorite fishing hole. Dick was a lifelong Yankees fan and would take every opportunity to rub it in if the Yanks beat your team! He traveled to many professional games over the years and had enjoyed spring training a few years ago. He also enjoyed NASCAR and Wildcat sports. Dick had many hobbies that he enjoyed over the years, and he had been an avid collector of model trains. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Margaret; brothers, Eddie, Don and Jim; sister, Joan King Drager, niece, Peggy King; great-nephew, Lyle Seward; and sisters-in law, Ruth King, Barbara King and Thelma Blake. Dick is survived by many loving and caring friends in the Flathead Valley, and best pals, Mike Scott and Chewy. Also surviving Dick, our favorite uncle, are nieces, Robbie King, Janice Rhodes, Michelle McDowell and Kami Anderson; nephews, Ed, Kelly and Cary King, Bret and Brad Drager, and Scott and Don King. Dick also is survived by numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. Dick will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives were touched by his kindness and gentle manner and his quick sense of humor. Go hike that next mountain Dick; save some fish for us! A memorial wake will be held for Pooh at 2 p.m., March 21, at The Office (the Columbia Bar) in Columbia Falls. Please join us for this special time of sharing memories of Dick. Memorials can be sent to the charity of the donor s choice in Dick s name.
