It’s pretty amazing when you stop and look at all the things the Flathead Valley is known for. Whether it is destinations like the “Crown of the Continent” that Glacier National Park has become known as, to Flathead Lake, Flathead River, the Jewel Basin and so many more places. Or perhaps it is products like Flathead cherries and huckleberries, microbreweries and distilleries or even the firearms industry that has been making waves, from parts and pieces to complete rifles manufactured here. Even more, perhaps it’s the activities like skiing on Big Mountain, snowmobiling on the Flathead National Forest or fishing on Flathead Lake or the dozens of other lakes in the region.

A strong Flathead defense shut down Glacier on Saturday at Legends Stadium, and one of its own capped the crosstown soccer game with a spectacular goal to lift the Bravettes to a 2-0 Western AA conference victory.

Lois O. (Urban) Stevens, 82, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 29, 2007. Lois was born Sept. 2, 1924, on the family homestead in Epping, N.D., the seventh of 10 children born to Evangeline (Kingston) and Rudolf A. Urban. She came to the Flathead Valley when she was 16 to live with her Aunt Hattie and Uncle Alva Ulrich in Somers. She graduated from Flathead County High School in 1942 with high honors.
