No. 25130 CALL FOR BIDS Notice is hereby given that the Board of County Commissioners of Flathead County, Montana, will receive bids on the following grades of EMULSIFIED LIQUID ASPHALT: Estimated Usage Emulsified Asphalt - CRS 2 - 500 tons The estimated usage figures are to be used only for the purpose of submitting a bid; actual usage for 2018 asphalt season may vary from the estimate. Bidding is to be by the ton F.O.B. to Flathead County and the specific site, which will be disclosed at the time the order is placed. Bid price is to also include appropriate placement of materials on County site by successful bidder. Distributor to be mounted with a Bear Cat computerized spray bar with a minimum 4,000 gallon tank or equivalent. Supplier shall have oil sample test results on hand and available upon request of Flathead County. Bidder will be responsible for proper product, temperature, consistency, and application. All orders will be placed with the successful bidder by 4:00 p.m. on the day prior to delivery. All orders to be delivered at 7:00 a.m. the next morning. Invasive mussels pose economic, ecological threats, report says

For a region rich in lakes, the specter of infestation by invasive mussels can wring shudders from people familiar with what’s at stake.

Catherine Sandra Wilson, 70

Catherine Sandra Wilson, 70, died after a short illness on Monday, Oct. 18, 2010. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Cathy had touched in her memorable life. Cathy was born in Great Falls on Feb. 14, 1940, to Charles and Edith Goudie, who had emigrated in the 1920s from the Shetland Islands. Known as Sandy early in life, she attended Great Falls High, and then the University of Montana and Montana State where she earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education. While in college, she met Stuart Wilson and they married on Sept. 21, 1960. Son Mark was born the next year. Cathy began her career in Spokane, teaching special needs children. After moving back to Great Falls, Cathy served as a substitute teacher for many years. Daughters Laurie and Anne Marie were added to the family during that time. In 1974, the family moved to Kalispell and Cathy opened the Wilson Preschool/Kindergarten. Over the next 34 years, she taught over 1,200 children, many of whom were second-generation students. The lower level of their home was magically transformed into a place where young ladies and gentlemen absorbed social skills and a love of learning and became a true family. Her sweet nature and disciplined approach were renowned in the Flathead Valley. The Wilsons opened Tile Plus flooring store 20 years ago. Cathy enjoyed working with customers, helping them design and decorate their homes. After retiring as a teacher in 2008, she devoted even more time to the store, putting her imprint on the community in a different way. Cathy participated in the local P.E.O. Chapter and supported her girls in Job s Daughters. Cathy was an avid supporter of her beloved Montana Grizzlies, Flathead Braves, Glacier Wolfpack and, most recently, the Montana Tech Orediggers, where two of her grandsons are student athletes in football. Above everything else, Cathy loved and supported her grandchildren in Kalispell and Missoula. Some of the best times were spent at their cabin on Ashley Lake. Cathy s friends and family will all attest to her unwavering kindness and generosity. In Cathy s 70 years she used every minute, working hard and enjoying life to the fullest. Not being positive was a waste of time. She leaves a big empty space for her family and friends, but wonderful memories of her full-tilt life. Cathy is survived by husband, Stu; son, Mark and Renell of Kalispell, and their children, Jareth, Kramer and Halle; daughter Laurie Pace and John Brownell of Missoula, and sons, Tanner and Quinn; daughter Anne and Chuck Marvin of Missoula, and sons, Jordan and Bailey; and brother, Harland and Joanne Goudie and his daughters, Kate and Patrick Howell, and Leslie and Steven Warner and grandchildren, Katie and James. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to the P.E.O. Jane Hammer Holmgren Foundation, in care of Sue Ori, 113 Riverview Drive, Kalispell, MT 59901. A celebration of life and service of remembrance for family, students and friends will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at Northridge Lutheran Church, 323 Northridge Drive, Kalispell. Edna Faye Oftedahl, 95

Edna Faye Oftedahl went to be with the Lord on Nov. 3, 2010, in Kalispell at the age of 95. She was born on July 7, 1915, in Paton, Iowa to Oscar and Evelyn (Smith) White. Edna was raised in a loving Christian home, along with seven siblings who remained close-knit all their lives. She completed eighth grade and then worked odd jobs to help out. Her favorite was driving the team to pick corn with her Dad; she said they were the best team in the county! At the age of 19 she married Oscar L. Oftedahl, on Christmas Day, 1934. They made their home in Owatonna, Minn. When World War II broke out, Edna managed four small children while Oscar served four years in the U.S. Navy. In 1947, they moved to Kalispell and established their home on a timbered cattle ranch near Foy's Lake. Edna had four more children, including triplets. In addition to gardening, baking, canning and sewing, she worked with Oscar in the hayfields and harvesting Christmas trees. She served as a school clerk and election judge for 50 years and sold Avon products for 31 years. Edna was also a 4-H leader and head of the Culinary Department of the Flathead County Fair for many years and was well known for her blue-ribbon pies. She was a faithful member of Central Bible Church. Edna was preceded in death by infant son, Bruce; her loving husband, Oscar; daughter, Connie Oftedahl Lindsey; three brothers, Don, Elmer and Wayne White; two sisters, Norma Gross and Dorothy Federly; and a great-grandson, Tyler Nestegard. She is survived by three sons, Melvin and wife, JoAnn; Harold "John"; and Jerry and wife, Vickie; three daughters, Joan McAdams and husband, Richard; Donna and husband, Jack Paulson; and Dianne Oftedahl. All reside in the Flathead Valley. Edna is also survived by one brother, Charles O. White of Fairfield, Iowa; one sister, Ida Beth Squibb of Jefferson, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-, great-grand-, and great-great-grandchildren. With the birth of each one, she would say, "I just keep getting greater and greater." And she did. God designed her as a role model for five generations of women. He must be pleased. Edna's family extends their sincere thanks to countless friends for your thoughtfulness, with special acknowledgment to Central Bible Church, Christian Center, Frontier Hospice, and the loving, caring staff of Wel-Life Assisted Living. God bless you all. Celebration of life service for Edna will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Christian Center.
