Man not fooled by magazine scam

A man told the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office he reportedly received a scam phone call from someone claiming to be with Reader’s Digest and wanted to send someone to his house to talk about his winnings or they were going to break his legs. Understandably, the man refused to provide his address. He was provide a phone number to report the phone number.

A man was taken into custody by Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Tuesday evening after he led authorities on a two-county chase covering more than 40 miles.

Kalispell police responded to a Liberty Street apartment where a 52-year-old man, who had been drinking, was banging on a woman's door. Officers told him to move along and then left. When they had to return half an hour later, they arrested him for disorderly conduct.

Area fire departments responded to a number of fires caused by lightning strikes and accidents caused by inclement weather Tuesday night. The Smith Valley Fire Department responded to smoke seen near Coon Hollow Road in Kila. They also responded to a tree across the road on Batavia Lane and a fire in a field near Rose Crossing and Pine Grove Lane.

Kalispell Fire Department ambulances, Lakeside Quick Response Unit, Somers Fire Department, and Montana Highway Patrol responded to an accident Wednesday on U.S. 93 South near mile marker 108 just before 10 a.m. A car driven by a 79-year-old man with a 72-year-old passenger and a 76-year-old passenger was traveling southbound when it was rear-ended while trying to make a right turn into a body shop by an SUV driven by a 21-year-old woman. The three people in the car were transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for precautionary reasons. Neither alcohol or excessive speed were factors, according to the Montana Highway Patrol, which investigated the accident.

Flathead County sheriff's deputies charged a 22-year-old man with DUI and having no liability insurance after a U.S. 93 stop north of Lakeside.

Kalispell police were busy with traffic trouble and oddities. A traffic light on U.S. 93 and Commons Way was no match for a truck carrying a silo Monday. Another driver overestimated the height of the underpass on East Idaho Street or underestimated the height of his vehicle. The result caused some damage.

Kittens left in a cardboard box on the doorstep of the Northwest Montana Humane Society shelter on U.S. 93 over the Fourth of July holiday clawed their way out and were on the run when shelter officials caught them.

Among complaints to the Flathead County Sheriff's Office about unsafe shooting were reports on Farm to Market Road, Dawn Drive, Cougar Drive and Danielson Road, where a woman was concerned about hunters shooting toward her horses and house.

March Madness struck some vandals who worked on their free-throw skills in town. One launched a paint ball at a truck driving on U.S. 93 and one threw rocks that dented a vehicle driving on 16th Street West.

took a report from Collier Lane, where a resident said someone threw a pole through a plate-glass window at about 4 a.m. A paper carrier's vehicle also was damaged. A man in black who was seen running away is suspected as the javeliner.
