Man has a hunch if quarters are missing

An employee on Nucleus Avenue wanted to let Columbia Falls Police Department know about a man who was a “known thief,” just in case law enforcement had a “case of missing quarters.” The man allegedly came in “with a bunch of quarters” to use in a coin machine, yet it wasn’t clear from the report where the “thief” label came in.

A traffic stop of a sport utility vehicle with Oregon plates in Kalispell Wednesday night ended with a bizarre twist when the vehicle fled and was later stopped again and approached by authorities, who found the male and female occupants dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

The Lord took our favorite angel John Encoe home on Dec. 16, 2009, to finally dance among the stars after 30 years of battling his life in a wheelchair. He was born Sept. 9, 1962. John was a beautiful man with an infectious smile, warm heart, and an outstretched hand; and positive words to anyone who knew him or met him. He was loved by his family, friends and co-workers, and will be deeply missed. John is survived by his mother, Diana K. Clarke, and husband, Robert, of Kalispell; father, William, and Joanne Wall, of St. George, Utah; daughter, Alexandria, and Devon Morkin, of Kalispell; grandsons, Aydan and Dawson, and his favorite cousin, Heather Fletcher, of Kalispell; brother, Troy Wall, and wife, Tonya, of St. George; sister, Scarlett, and husband, Rick Miller, of Gilbert, Ariz.; brother, Shane Encoe, and wife, Sherry, of Kalispell; and uncle, Donald Bouge, of Bountiful, Utah; among many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews. Kalispell police set up surveillance at a home on Merganser Drive after receiving word that a man wanted on a felony warrant out of Florida may be inside. They followed vehicles that left the home, then arrested the man. He's wanted for probation violation on a homicide charge.

A woman told Kalispell police a man took her car without permission to go buy a pack of cigarettes. He never returned. Officers later found the car parked at a bar on U.S. 93.

An alleged burglar was caught in the act Wednesday night at Badger Building Center on U.S. 2. The owner reported a gray-haired man in a white shirt outside at 11:30 p.m. He called the Flathead County Sheriff's Office for help. Deputies discovered Thomas Devine, 63, reportedly stacking plywood siding next to a fence, with his pickup parked outside. They chased him and he tripped and fell, according to Undersheriff Mike Meehan. He was arrested and charged with theft, trespassing and obstructing an officer.

Flathead County Sheriff's Office was called about 20 cows on U.S. 2 near LaSalle Grange Friday morning. Later, a moose was hit by a vehicle on U.S. 93, west of Olney. The people were unhurt and the moose was still alive.

Kalispell police had some heavy lifting to clear up a traffic snarl in front of Lowe's Saturday when 60 or 70 bricks were dumped in the left-hand turn lane of U.S. 93.

The Flathead County Sheriff's Department

The Flathead County Sheriff's Department is investigating the disappearance of an employee, along with a company car, from Artisan Doors of Montana, a business located on U.S. 93 south of Kalispell. The vehicle was reported stolen Friday morning and the missing employee had apparently provided his employer with a false address and other personal information.

Kalispell police investigated a report of a suspected drunken driver

who was "swerving all over" U.S. 93. The driver was sober, but lost.
