Kalispell police dispatched the animal warden to a number of reports

of overheated dogs in distress. Warden Mike Hall said he has heard concerns about people leaving dogs in vehicles or out in the yard. He reminds dog owners that cracking the windows a few inches in vehicles doesn't provide an animal much relief from the pressure-cooker that a vehicle can become. It's better to leave dogs at home, he advises. Dogs should be fine in the yard if they have shade and water.

Flathead County Sheriff's Office took three reports Thursday night about a strange vision in the area of Jenny Lake or Doris Creek. At about 11:30 p.m., the first caller reported seeing a big ball of fire go over the top of the mountain. That caller reported the object as being as large as a plane. Minutes later, another caller described something like a meteor that landed in the South Fork and disappeared. A third caller also described the item as a fireball and said it went into the trees on the mountain between Marion and Tally Lake. A sheriff's dispatcher called the Federal Aviation Administration in Seattle, Great Falls, and Salt Lake City. None of those offices had reports of anything unusual.

Kalispell police were called at 1:30 a.m. when a vehicle hit a building on Fifth Avenue East and the driver fled. He left behind his license plate and other pieces of his vehicle. At about 3 a.m., a man skulked around the same area and hid behind bushes. Police tracked the license plate to a vehicle parked in a garage. The matter is under investigation.

He'd honked his horn when a man had pulled into a space right in front of him. Kalispell Police took 34 complaints about fireworks from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon. Some people got warnings. Some got tickets. The police department got a collection of explosives it confiscated.

Flathead County Sheriff's Office had scores of complaints about fireworks in the past days. Among them was a call from Coram where someone reported $350 in fireworks stolen. That turned out to be a dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend, defused by a deputy. It was after midnight when a resident on Plentywood Drive called to say he'd had enough of people setting off fireworks down the street and if they didn't stop, he'd kill them.

in appliances left there. At one point, one of the large containers was completely engulfed in flames. The Flathead County Sheriff's Office arrested one person later on suspicion of arson. That wasn't the end of the problems there; the Somers Fire Department was called back twice more for fires.
