The Whitefish interim chief of police and the department's former longtime chief are the subjects of an investigation by state officials after alleged acts of corruption involving another Whitefish man who is facing separate federal fraud charges.

In a somewhat bizarre theft, wheels and tires stolen off a car at a business on Montana 35 were replaced with cheaper rims but a better set of tires. New lug nuts also were installed. The alleged thief, however, still made out on the deal. Flathead County Sheriff's deputies are investigating.
