A fire engine and a pickup truck collided on the highway in southwestern Montana, causing an explosion and fire that killed six people, including a fire chief and three Helena children. Mary Lloyd Retires

Fourth grade teacher Mary Lloyd reacts to a surprise retirement party with her students on Wednesday, June 11, at Hedges School in Kalispell. The students presented her with a Number One Teacher sash, a paper crown, paper flowers and a book in which they had each written letters for her. The letters were laminated and bound by Amber Reiner whose son is a part of Lloyd's final class. Lloyd spent a total of 17 years at Hedges including her work as a title tutor, her student teaching and then running her own classroom. Wednesday was the last day of classes for Kalispell schools.

Bigfork hires new basketball coach, AD

BIGFORK — Former assistant Sam Tudor has been named the head boys’ basketball coach at Bigfork, taking the reins of the defending Class B state champions from Josh Downey, who departed for the head coaching job at Whitefish High School this spring. Dave Creamer will be taking over Downey’s duties as activities director. Both jobs are pending school board approval at tonight’s board meeting.

Barbara Knox, 80, of Lewistown died Saturday evening at her home of cancer. She was born April 28, 1933 in Lewistown to Lawrence and Francis (Cook) Berry. They lived in Lewistown where she received her schooling graduating from Fergus High School in 1951. She worked at Highland Park School, later at Mountain Bell until her marriage to Glen Knox on September 2, 1955 in Lewistown. She continued at Mountain Bell until they started their family when she devoted her time to their children. In 1970 she went to work at the First National Bank working in the bookkeeping department until her retirement in 1999.
