Snapper captured
An aggressive 20-pound snapping turtle was captured by Paul Charbonneau of Flathead County Animal Control Friday morning in Kalispell. The turtle reportedly was first caught in the creek near Cemetery Road by a man who delivered it to his ex-girlfriend. Charbonneau took the turtle to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, where he was told it would be killed since it’s not native to this part of Montana. According to Alan Wood, a state biologist, snapping turtles are very good at eating everything they can catch, up to and including ducks. They compete with native species for food. “We don’t want a species introduced where they haven’t been historically because it will alter the ecosystem,” Wood said.
