Flathead County sheriff's deputies looked into a report that a man came to the Shady Lane residence, broke the door and punched her husband. An hour later, a driver was threatening people and an intoxicated man hit a woman. The incidents are connected.

Polson's water rate plan is unfair

The city of Polson has proposed a water and sewer service rate increase that would cost city residents $93 per month. The plan is inequitable and basically unfair in that it proposes to reduce cost for “Snowbirds” when they are not using city water and sewer facilities.

An early morning call to the Whitefish Police Department was about poor golf course etiquette at a facility near U.S. 93. A vehicle was reportedly damaging hole No. 1. A woman sleeping in the vehicle on site was arrested.

Helen Marie Phelps died in Kalispell on Monday, July 26, 2010, at the age of 93. She was born Nov. 25, 1916, in Eureka, Calif., as one of 10 children to Nicholas and Anna (Bubestinger-Naas) Nelson. She grew up in Eureka, Calif., and married Carl Benjamin Phelps there on June 4, 1938, at St. Bernard s Catholic Church. They followed Carl s career in the lumber business which brought them to Whitefish, in 1957. Helen enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother, gardening, crossword puzzles, reading and solitaire. Helen is survived by her children, Joanne Shupert of Trego, Carla and Barton Wert of Republic, Wash., and Donald and Linda Phelps of Hillsboro, Ore.; 12 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her nine siblings; and by her husband, Carl, in 1995. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, at First Baptist Church in Whitefish. Contributions may be made to St. Jude s Research Hospital. Services are under the care of Austin Funeral Home.

When a car came upon him, a very drunk man jumped up from where he'd been lying in the middle of U.S. 93 just north of the KOA Campground. Despite his intoxicated state, he told Whitefish police he was determined to walk to Kalispell. A sheriff's deputy drove him to a Kalispell motel.

Somers Fire Department went to an alarm on U.S. 93 South that was activated by burned food. Whatever it was that was being burned on Parkview Lane Thursday evening smelled like garbage.

Whitefish ambulance

Whitefish ambulance went to the ice rink Thursday evening to give an injured woman a ride to the hospital and to the jail just after midnight when an inmate reportedly tried to hang himself. Friday, the ambulance and fire department went to a vehicle accident with injuries near the Pine Lodge on U.S. 93.
