James Oliver "Jim" Williams, 78, of Kalispell, formerly of Mountain Run Road in DuBois, Pa., died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the home of his daughter in Kalispell. Jim was born April 19, 1930, in Clear Run, Pa., to the late John and Mandain (Detrich) Williams.

Frances M. Roe, 89

Frances M. Roe (aka ÒGranny FrannyÓ) passed away on Monday, July 6, 2009, at Heritage Place in Kalispell. She was born on Feb. 12, 1920, in Cooperstown, N.D., the third daughter of four children to Leslie L. and Frances M. Slyter. She was raised in Williston, N.D., and moved to Kalispell in 1938. She graduated from Flathead County High School in 1939.To help with the war effort during World War II, Frances worked for Boeing assembling aircraft. Upon returning to Kalispell, she met and married Archie D. Roe. She was a devoted mother and housewife, and later worked for several local businesses. After the death of Archie she became a secretary at the Kalispell Senior Center until she retired at the age of 80.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters, Shirley Ottenstror and Betty Vandenover.She is survived by her brother, Leslie D. ÒBudÓ Slyter, of Kalispell; daughter, Leslie A. and husband, Curtis Lund, of Reno, Nev.; sons, Richard and wife, Lisa, and Dan and wife, Jill, of Kalispell; five granddaughters, Lisa Hoffman, Amy Judd, Staci Lund, and Wendy Gray, all of Reno, and Jenna Roe of Kalispell; two grandsons, Christopher Lund of Reno, and Tyler Roe of Kalispell; and five great-grandchildren, Cody and Madison Judd, Hailey and Cade Hoffman, and Riley Gray, all of Reno.ÒWe love you and will miss you, Mom.ÓAt FrancesÕ request, no service was held. Ellen Vernice Nelson, 89

Ellen Vernice Nelson, 89, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at the Heritage Place in Kalispell. She was born Feb. 3, 1920, to William and Edna (Wilson) Alfred on their homestead four miles north of Two Dot.

Virginia Ann (Brooks) Bell, 79

Virginia Bell, 79, passed away with her children by her side June 18, 2010. She was born May 21, 1931, in Ronan. She is survived by her four children, Jack and Julie Bell of Columbia Falls, Sharon Lukens of Forney, Texas, Vivian Spencer of Terrace, British Columbia, and Ken and Barb Bell of Grants Pass, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Bell; two sons-in-law, Richard Lukens and Dan Spencer; her parents; three brothers and four sisters. Virginia worked hard, as she would say, for many years of her life. She worked on the farm growing up, and later she cooked in logging camps and restaurants as well as working alongside her husband in cedar mills across Montana, Idaho and Canada. Virginia was the happiest when she could do something for those around her, whether immediate family, her church family or her neighbors. She sought to serve others in the name of the Lord. She loved to garden and definitely had a green thumb. Over the years, many enjoyed the fruit of her labor as she cooked, canned and shared the bounty of her gardens. In her later years, her flower garden continued to bring her much pleasure, especially as those who passed by her window stopped for a moment to enjoy and comment on the beauty they saw. A memorial service joyfully celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at Columbia Falls Assembly of God Church.
