Flathead Sheriff
Flathead Sheriff's Office was called Wednesday night to U.S. 93 near Lakeside, where a 19-year-old man called for help from 12 feet up a tree. He was fearful that people were after him and had a sense of foreboding. Somers fire department was asked to bring a ladder truck and Lakeside Quick Response Unit was notified. The man climbed down after his father arrived and they were referred to help.
Kalispell Police
Two men who were seen exposing themselves to patrons at a bar on U.S. 93 South were advised to leave the premises by members of the Kalispell Police Department late Sunday night.
Here's a good idea if you plan to drink and dash at a bar:
Don't leave your identification behind at the table. The Finish Line bar might be happy to return it to its owner for payment of the $22.25 tab he left without paying.

are looking for the driver of a truck that smashed through the front window of Ole's Country Store on U.S. 93 and then went east on West Reserve Drive just before midnight Saturday.

Two people were injured after they hit a deer on a motorcycle at the Beaver Lake turnoff on U.S. 93. ALERT helicopter took them to the hospital.

A massive train derailment left a highway shut down and dozens of cars off the tracks in spectacular fashion Saturday afternoon.
Winter visitor
An influx of snowy owls has been documented in the Polson area recently, but this photo shows that the rare species is visiting the north end of Flathead Lake as well. Photographer Richard Cordell took this picture of an owl on a farm off of Farm Road in the Lower Valley. Cordell said it is one of several owls in the vicinity. Flathead Audubon Society is taking a free birding trip around the Lower Valley Saturday to search for snowy owls, raptors, wintering waterfowl and other winter birds. To participate, meet at 8 a.m. at the Park ‘n’ Ride at the intersection of U.S. 93 and Montana 82 near Somers. Bring binoculars or a scope.

Horsemanship and Cow Working Clinic with Dave Gamble
Dave Gamble, upper right, and students gather cattle for a cow working lesson on Friday, April 19, at the Standing Heart Ranch in Whitefish. Gamble as been teaching horsemanship and cow working for 15 years. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday Gamble will be leading a workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants pay $375 to attend. Spectators are also welcome to watch for $15. The ranch is located at 1000 Kuhn's Road south of Whitefish. To get there take 93 north to KM Ranch Road. Left on Spring Prairie. The Flathead Classic Sled Dog Race needs volunteers. The race is scheduled Feb. 28 to March 1 in Olney, 18 miles west of Whitefish off U.S. 93.
LETTER: Traffic patterns and the big rigs
The new rail park sounds great for the downtown area. But there will be a big increase in traffic on Seventh Avenue East North and Whitefish Stage Road. I hope the planners have considered the increased big rig traffic on Seventh Avenue East North as the intersection at Idaho Street is very narrow for big rigs to turn and may need a left turn lane on Seventh Avenue East North and be widened.
