Whitefish Theatre Co. presents an enchanting and magical timeless tale
Dancing dwarfs, a truly evil queen, a hysterical witch, a handsome prince and, of course, the fairest princess in the land will take center stage in the timeless tale of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, this classic version of the story begins with the beautiful Snow White serving her stepmother, the evil Queen Brangomar. However, when Snow White and Prince Florimond fall in love at a ball, the evil queen becomes envious of Snow White and goes to great lengths to get rid of her, including conspiring with Witch Hex to make Snow White take a bite of the infamous poison apple. While you may know how the lovable and clever seven dwarfs save the day in this cherished tale, a new cast of supporting characters breathes new life into this treasured story, surprising and entertaining audiences of all ages.

State of the Union: Truth, Trump and the economy
The State of the Union (SOTU) speech was less a report to the nation than a well-produced reality show and well-staged campaign rally. But what really offends is that most of the substance Trump advanced was not true. Unsurprisingly, the president who has spit out more than 16,000 false or misleading claims in his first three years, played fast and loose with the facts.
Digging in to Trump's trade reality
Economists at the American Farm Bureau estimated that the Trans-Pacific Partnership would have provided American producers over $4 billion annually in increased sales, but Trump withdrew the U.S. from the agreement. The 11 remaining countries formed a new TPP without the United States. This allowed Canada and Australia to sell wheat and beef to Japan on more favorable terms than the United States. Trump had lost markets for U.S. producers and desperately needed to negotiate an agreement with Japan to fill the hole he had created. However, the U.S.-Japan agreement does not completely cover what the U.S. had gained in the original TPP, and we lost short-term and potentially long-term markets to Canada and Australia during the two years we were negotiating with Japan. Thus Trump was only able to partially fill the hole he had created.

AG's opioid lawsuits unjust and misguided
There is an unfortunate but very human tendency to react to one bad idea with another bad idea especially when the second bad idea allows us to blame someone other than ourselves for the first bad idea. The recent announcement by our state’s Attorney General Office to sue two leading pharmaceutical providers in Montana, part of a growing national movement to blame corporations for our ongoing opioid epidemic, is based in such a reaction. This response is not only unjust but misguided for the negative impact it will have on the field of medicine.

Masters of the mountain
A half dozen skiers fly down Emmons Ridge, whipping through the powder during an afternoon outing at Blacktail Mountain. They weave among each other, snow trailing behind them like a wintry wake. As the group comes closer, the skiers’ features become more apparent.
Digging in to Trump’s trade reality

AG’s opioid lawsuits unjust and misguided
There is an unfortunate but very human tendency to react to one bad idea with another bad idea especially when the second bad idea allows us to blame someone other than ourselves for the first bad idea. The recent announcement by our state’s Attorney General Office to sue two leading pharmaceutical providers in Montana, part of a growing national movement to blame corporations for our ongoing opioid epidemic, is based in such a reaction. This response is not only unjust but misguided for the negative impact it will have on the field of medicine.
My decade of dance aerobics
One of the instructors at my gym recently resurrected her old dance aerobics class — 2000s-era music and moves — for a Saturday morning class. I decided it would be fun to go, having been “into” dance aerobics for many years, when I was much younger.
Lynx research important for ‘big picture’ decisions
An incredible amount of work has gone into studying the threatened Canada lynx, a rare and snow-dependent cat whose southernmost habitat stretches into Montana in an area called the Southwestern Crown of the Continent, a vast region that forms the southern boundary of the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex and includes areas and communities within the Blackfoot, Clearwater and Swan River valleys.
Concerns with bison restoration initiatives
There has recently been a lot of press about bison being designated a free roaming animal in Montana. As a retired cattle rancher, I would like to raise a few thoughts that have not been brought out in various opinion pieces.

Researchers spend years building datasets for elusive wildlife
In a state where regal mountains and unconfined rivers demand attention and esteem, there exists also the less obvious, but no less significant creatures that call these places home. And one would be hard-pressed to find a Montanan who hasn’t acknowledged a simple creed: our state wouldn’t be as special if our wild landscapes lacked wildlife.

Thank you for thanking me for turning in your red change purse (“Kind Person,” Feb. 9). What a full circle growth opportunity for my children. The political atmosphere we find ourselves in over the past few years is too extreme for practically all American any more. I find trying to ask for any kind of civility on practically any topic will bring hyper ridicule from extremes on either end of the political spectrum, which are given the loudest voices in the media. It is only honest for me to state that the Liberal extreme is more adept at making this happen. We have reached to impeachment on what is most accurately described as a difference of opinion on an ethical issue. The Bidens are finding themselves caught up in a similar issue.
