from the Stacey Oil Co. on Spokane Avenue sometime between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Police think the perpetrator used a one-ton truck with a mounted fuel tank. Crimestoppers will pay a reward of as much as $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. The Crimestoppers hotline is 752-TIPS.

Kalispell police took a complaint Monday night about a man who keeps calling a person in New Jersey, despite being repeatedly told that he has the wrong number and being asked to stop calling. Police found the man at a motel and he decided to get on a bus out of town. However, he returned to the motel, saying he had left behind some clothing. It couldn't be found. He returned to the bus depot, but later called police, saying he wanted to turn himself in on a warrant from New Jersey. There is no record of such a warrant, either.

Misfired gunshots after the opening of hunting season were problematic for the Flathead County Sheriff's Office. A woman on Beaver Lake Road said shots were fired so close to her she had to hit the ground. Gunshots were heard Sunday night on Patrick Creek Road, where a green Grand Cherokee was seen leaving the area. Bullet holes were found in tires on Riverside Road. An 18-year-old man was taken to the hospital from a convenience store; he suffered a gunshot to the foot. On U.S. 2 West, shots fired toward a residential area caused concern. On Bigfork Stage Road, hunters chased a deer across a resident's property, saying they had permission to shoot on property north of him. They had no hunters orange and were wearing just T-shirts; the resident was concerned about shooting in the populated area. Signs were shot in the Foy's Lake area. On Star Meadows Road, a stray bullet entered a home.

Christopher Boer, 21, is charged with assault with a weapon - a felony. Amber Reynolds, 22, is charged with trespassing. The two reportedly knocked on a door at the Rosebriar Inn and pushed their way inside when the 32-year-old resident answered the door. He reportedly wrestled the gun away from Boer; Boer and Reynolds were arrested downtown a few hours later. The BB gun Boer used reportedly looks like a real semiautomatic handgun.

In this case, a con artist sent a 23-year-old Kalispell man a $38,000 check that he deposited at a banking institution and then returned $28,000, as agreed. He was to keep $10,000. Instead, the $38,000 check was no good, and he's responsible for the $28,000.
