Abandoned building burns
The incineration of an abandoned North Hill Road farm house west of Kalispell Tuesday morning is being investigated because of the possibility that it may have been deliberately burned down, according to Smith Valley Fire Chief DC Haas. Haas said there were conflicting stories about the owner burning debris and embers igniting the house — and whether the owner had a permit to burn the structure. According to Haas, the owner apparently called the fire department and left a message about his planned general burning, but that message was not received before the fire. The fire attracted a response from not only Smith Valley but also West Valley, Kalispell and South Kalispell fire departments as well as West Flathead EMS. Haas said he was most concerned about the dangers posed to multiple emergency responders rushing to get to the fire.

Fisher is best SD4 candidate for Kalispell
All too often we remain silent during primary season. We stand back letting the political process run its course. Fear always seems to be the motivator as we do not want to anger a person or party. Strolling Down Fourth Avenue East
The George Drew Residence at 345 Fourth Avenue East is a study in black and white. Historical Marker: Kalispell was only two years old when German immigrant Louise Sels and her son Ed had this cross-gabled Queen Anne style residence buit in 1892, a year that saw over a hundred homes built in the new town. Louise Sels soon sold the house to her son-in-law Arthur Burnes, but according to the 1900 census, she continued to live in the home with her extended family. The household included her three grown children, granddaughter, son-in-law, and his mother. Josephine Richards and Ella Bell owned the house between 1902 and 1905, renting out "nice large front rooms" to gentlemen. The distinctive horseshoe-shaped porch was added between 1903 and 1907. The home's longest occupant, Maude Drew, lived here between 1905 until her death in 1959 at age 89. A year after she and her husband George bought the house in 1905 they installed a brick sidewalk. The local newspaper lauded this improvement over the standard wood sidewalks and predicted, "other property owners will note the manner in which the walk wears with much interest." Mr. Baum suggested that his fellow Democrats join him in crossing over during the primary election and supporting the Republican incumbent running for re-election on the county commission, Cal Scott. Can it be that he has another motive for supporting commissioner Scott than his newly found conversion to “Republican” party principles?

The 2015 Montana legislative session will be the most important session since I was elected to the Montana House in 1999.
